NDTV's Wardrobe Malfunction

This had to happen! When the Supreme Court ordered the Zakia Jafri petition against Narendra Modi back to the lower courts in September 2011 it had struck a devastating blow to many media channels and their campaign of lies over Gujarat 2002. I wrote then that “The make-up and mask of Chachi 420 wasn’t meant to last forever”. For long it has been a known fact that NDTV is a crony media channel which exists to support and defend the Congress party no matter what. Several posts on this site, including “Tainted? Have a chat with Barkha” or “NDTV: Evolving the Gandhi” and many more chronicle NDTV’s unacceptable claim of “Independent and honest”. In the latter post I even wondered why NDTV has a Congress panellist at all in debates when the whole channel acts as a panellist for the party. NDTV had also made this claim of “independent and honest” in the case they filed against AC Nielson and the group for TRP ratings claiming a damage of over 1 Bn dollars.

On March 1 it took a couple of seconds for the wardrobe malfunction and for NDTV to completely stand exposed as a Congress crony. I doubt Barkha Dutt or anyone at NDTV can anymore claim “error of judgement” for Radiagate or any other misdeed. This was a discussion moderated on NDTV Hindi by Nidhi Kulpati. She was the original media celeb when Zee TV burst on to the scene with their Hindi news channel. She later shifted to NDTV. On Nidhi’s panel were Vinod Sharma (Again, why do they need him?), Sambit Patra of BJP, KC Tyagi of JDU, journalists Abhay Kumar and Purnima Joshi. The BJP was having a national meeting in Delhi and the panel was discussing its internal affairs. Out of the blue there is a prompt in Hindi at 30.30 minutes in the video to the anchor or a panellist to “defend for the Congress party”. Well, NDTV were defending and campaigning for and defending the Congress all these years no matter what, so the prompt was surprising. It’s a wardrobe malfunction that bared more than just body parts. It bared the character of NDTV. A very observant Rohit Baranwal captured the moment and put it up on Youtube.

Listen to the video carefully from 55 seconds onward. I have specially increased the volume at that point so it’s not missed. The prompt in Hindi is “Congress ke taraf se defend kar dena”. Brilliant! Many observers of the channel have often been asking the question to BJP leaders why they even appear on this political mouthpiece. This is particularly so for their top leaders like Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj. A political preference by a channel is not a crime but to go to the extent of fixing debates, as debates have always been fixed on certain channels, is breaking journalistic ethics and character. Then again, NDTV is not the only one. We just have to wait for a wardrobe malfunction from a couple of more channels.

  1. I recall that DD during its hey days looked like a teddy bear party compared to these vultures.Media Crookes have done their job. The rest is with us readers, to give it the widest publicity and get it to every home.

  2. Oh well, NDTV was long ago called the Nehru Dynasty TV. I don't even watch TV now, except for a movie now and then, mainly thanks to this channel. In a way, I suppose, NDTV has actually changed my life (and for the better).

  3. This just substantiates what diligent viewers always were convinced about.
The Congress actually represents the Corrupt Offsprings of Nehru- Gandhi Regressive mentality .
You will find them or their machinations in everything that is manipulated , corrupt , unholy , unethical , fudged or rigged .
There is no sanctity left in anything . And I am surprised that BJP is still not able to capitalize on all this .

Whereas these media houses are appropriately incentivized by Congress to dominate the mainstream media waves , the social media is largely driven by concerned citizens , patriots , people fed up with congress misrule .

The BJP needs to get its act right and fast ; and work at grassroots level ( assembly and panchayat Level ) to mobilize popular opinion in its favour and root out congress .

    http://m.timesofindia.com/business/india-business/India-headed-for-economic-doom-prominent-US-thinktank-says/articleshow/18772325.cms

we are definitely in doom times - it is just that our government and media in collusion are 'window dressing ' .

The time they spend in anti-Modi, anti -Hindu bashing , dividing indians, whipping up froth over non issues ( viz afzal guru ) - they effectively distract attention from the decay that is pervalent everywhere .
Corruption , mediocrity , gross mismanagement , inflation , is destroying india every moment and weakening it .

The BJP will have to take the lead and consolidate the anti-congress votes and come to power if only to stop this economic degeneration of the country . The change will have to be in the 2014 elections . Beyond that there is only more pain and hopelessness .

  5. Yesterday, for the whole day NDTV was running the caption that as per their sources (we all know who they are),Wharton business school is on the verge of dropping Modi's name from their list of guest speakers. This hatred for Modi seems to have become nothing less than an obsessive-compulsive disorder for them but that's the way they are.

  6. My problem with this video is why on earth an anchor needs to prompt somebody to defend Cong when Vinod Sharma's on panel. Anyway, kudos to whoever(presumably Mr Baranwal)captured this and posted on web.

  13. HA HA HA

    Brilliant catch.

However, to the fixers and shameless, there are lots of ways of putting a spin to this entire fiasco.

The number of people believing that NDTV is 'Independent and honest' is already dwindling, but any such expose helps us unbelievers in propitiating our selves that we are not on a wrong path.

  17. Well, here comes your second millionth view.

    Lets have party guys....

Afterall it has been a difficult journey for Ravina( there is every possibility that Ravinar could be she, i have found many ladies equally patriotic, if not more than there male counterparts), just as it was difficult one for Vivekanand to forgo his elite life.

  19. These TV media channels NDTV, Times NOW, CNN-IBN,...etc., have brought the media to such low levels that I am using parental control options on the DTH receiver to avoid even a singular glance them. They have distorted the truth, which is a great sin according to the any religious scriptures.

  21. Superb catch! There's no wardrobe to malfunction in NDTV's case! This is what people knew. Now, it's proved beyond any doubt.

I am sure, Arnab of TimesNow will use this to take a dig at them!

Its better they call themselves as the "HMV of Congress"!

  22. Indeed media is totally in bed with netas. On television and in print most claim to be independent and objective and do the bidding of the government. On the web most discourse is hijacked by the right wing.

I'm longing for a truly independent and credible media house. Guess, I'll have to become a journalist myself.

  26. It doesn't surprise me at all. What really surprises me is the fact that there are people who still appreciate these channels, the crook people within these organizations and defending them even after knowing truths and facts. Wish they could learn.

  31. The most worrying bit is that it is not just the politician that is corrupt and here to make a fool of all of us.. the so perceived educated and the 4th estate can so easily be corrupted.. the business folks are any way hand-in-glove with politicians.. what does it say of us "Indians"! Do we deserve anything better. Looks like we all are waiting for our opportunities to 'loot' and 'fool' and only until we get that opportunity, shout against them, then become one of them.
