The Emergency Herd

Since the BJP govt took over at the Centre some media folks, a vast gang rather, have hatched all kinds of conspiracies to poison public discourse. From calling PM Modi a “Hitler” to the frequent rants of “Emergency, Emergency” one can sense their frustration. Terrorism and terrorists are serious issues. Most of this gang bats for the terrorists, sympathises with them at the cost of continued deaths of our jawans and civilians. The GOI is silly in banning NDTV for 24 hours over their terror-friendly reporting at Pathankot in January this year. For a channel whose reporters have constantly breached all levels of decency and shown utter disregard for rules on reporting from conflict-zones this is hardly a punishment. This is the video that is reportedly the offender. Does it seem like a report or “educating the enemy”?

NDTV does not deserve a ban. It deserves a permanent shut-down not just for anti-national reporting but also for multiple financial frauds. The media as a whole and NDTV, in particular, has not learned any lessons from the scathing remarks by the Supreme Court over the reporting of the 26/11 attacks. It makes sorry reading and I quote:

405. Any attempt to justify the conduct of the TV channels by citing the right to freedom of speech and expression would be totally wrong and unacceptable in such a situation. The freedom of expression, like all other freedoms under Article 19, is subject to reasonable restrictions. An action tending to violate another person’s right to life guaranteed under Article 21 or putting the national security in jeopardy can never be justified by taking the plea of freedom of speech and expression”.

Read all the observations of the SC here. Predictably, the clueless herd of predominantly anti-Modi gang in the media started off with their “Emergency” nonsense:

Those who are unaware of what really transpired during IndiraG’s Emergency can get a basic guide at this website. It was a period when unelected people like Sanjay Gandhi ruled the roost and destroyed every democratic institution. To compare any situation in India to that period would only have to be the 10 years of corrupt UPA. This same media did not bat an eyelid when an anti-people law like 66A was passed and had to be finally struck down by the SC. This herd will lecture everyone that FoE comes with reasonable restrictions but those will not apply to them. They are a law unto themselves. Take this guy for instance. Shekhar Gupta is a Congi bootlicker and that is no secret and he is quickly off the mark with another “Emergency” rant:

Who is “we” in the tweet? The newspaper that SG worked for stood up to IndiraG’s Emergency. SG is the one who really crawled at the door of the Congress when nobody asked him to. Take a casual look at the assets of some of this media herd built during the 10 years of UPA and you will know who are the crawlers. I call them “Lutyens Crawlers”. Here are summarised excerpts from a Blog site that has listed 18 factoids about SG from an article that appeared in the Caravan:

# After interviewing over 50 people, the reporter Krishn Kaushik writes that “detractors of the ‘Shekhar Gupta phenomenon’ contended that Gupta’s wealth compromised the “Journalism of Courage” he promoted at the Indian Express.
# When an Indian Express report on the alleged violations in the acqusition of land for Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani‘s Antilla tower was to appear in the Bombay edition, he called resident editor Samar Halarnkar “from a train in Italy” although in fairness, he did not block the story.
# Krishn Kaushik writes that at least half-a-dozen current and former members of the Express news team gave the reporter “specific instances” of stories being killed, allegedly without discussion with those reporting them—stories that went against a top industrialist, a cabinet minister, a real-estate group.
# Former Union home and finance minister P. Chidambaram was the ‘holy cow’ in the Express newsroom. “You could not criticise him.” The Express staff “sort of had the feeling that the Ambanis were untouchable.”
# Around the time Shekhar Gupta became CEO of Express, a gentleman called B.S. Raman would come to Express Towers in Bombay for a few hours every day from the nearby Reliance Industries’ office at Maker Chambers. Raman tells the reporter he was asked by his office to help Viveck Goenka‘s company.
# A Express staffer told the reporter that the C-story  “The January night Raisina Hill was spooked” had been pushed by P. Chidambaram, who was then the home minister, and Nehchal Sandhu, then the director of the intelligence bureau.

That’s the Shekhar Gupta that keeps moralising and sermonising the country on FoE and freedoms. Of course, most of his nonsensical “national interest” articles were “Doctoring and Nursing the Congress”. He was trying to nurse a scam-ridden Congress to health but never stops whining about ModiSarkar or his own imaginary crap about Emergency. When the money-flow becomes a trickle and political influence vanishes, everything seems an Emergency to the herd. And these very people hold seminars, whisper “Chop her” (When in a debate with Shazia Ilmi who called SG a “wheeler dealer”) write all the garbage in the world and then claim their voices are being stifled:

Every Congress lackey in the media is feeling a loss of relevance and political influence. Imagine, this NDTV claims being a news channel. So what in the world makes it think it has any business to file a petition with the National Green Tribunal to scuttle the Sgarmala Project of the GOI which envisages new ports along India’s coastline? Is this the business of a news channel? Only an anti-national group against the development of Indian ports can file such a petition. It had to later withdraw the petition after it was exposed as an unlawful act not mandated by its Memorandum or Articles of Association.

The GOI too needs to review its own policies and conduct with the media where terrorism and conflict zones are concerned. Time and again certain reporters hob-nob with Army guys, leak sensitive information from conflict zones and when mobile networks are cut off they provide info on even where WiFi is working. It is the cowardice and pussy-footing from keeping out “motivated” reporters and channels from conflict zones that is harmful. In fact, the only briefing should come from an authorised spokie of the Army or the govts concerned. Jawans or other commanders giving sound-bites to media from places of anti-terror operations is a sickness which ails our system:

But all this is not so much about the ban on NDTV or anything else. These campaigners for the “Sickular” parties have to build up a narrative for the upcoming elections in some states; especially UP. And given that NDTV is a rouge-channel that constantly flouts rules and guidelines what explains the fact that half the BJP ministers and senior leaders are parked at their studios all the time? ModiSarkar has also failed to develop a good system of communication with the media and people in general. And FoE is curbed for anyone at all? Here’s a Karnataka journo and media-adviser for the CM who spews vile hatred against Modi (clip from OneIndia website):

This is what the Congress wants - the violent death of Modi? The nonsense of MSM is mostly being dismantled by those on SM. Regular press briefings and a proper PMO spokesman is inevitable to alter public discourse. The Emergency rants of a herd of fully-depreciated journos may not mean much but it’s for the GOI to alter communication methods and not allow conflict zones to be abused by certain journos.

  1. On the one hand NDTV is going to court and on the other hand begging for lifting of ban. Naidu has put the ban on hold. All polls on twitter have favoured total ban on NDTV what to talk of one day. As a message is going viral on SM रंडी का कोठा एक दिन बंद करा देने से वह धंधा नहीं छोड़ देती --. I strongly feel that Arun Jaitely, fondly called as Jai Italy has managed to put the ban on hold. This shows that he is being blackmailed or doing something for which he may be blackmailed later on.

  10. I am now prompted to think the ban on NDTV is handiwork of a bureaucrat sympathetic the erstwhile regime fully knowing what will follow..the emergency herd chest beating and govt being forced to take on its chin by putting the ban on hold. This is similar to the proposal to tax PF accumulation which angered the middle class(the namo vote bank) and gave a chance opposition and msm to go at NAMO. It would be interesting to think what would have been the action taken if the following three were the I & B Ministers when NBSA brought up the proposal to ban NDTV
Arun..would not have banned as he would have calculated the total impact(for all!)
NAMO..If convinced the ban was right, would have gone with it and would have stuck with it whatever be the agenda driven chest beating by prestitutes.
Naidu..already seen..could not say NO to either NBSA or to the emergency herd's chest beating. Banned and put it on hold.

As you rightly put it it is high time a sensible person who can communicate to the people every week to counter the prestitutes whose sole agenda is to misrepresent everything this government does. The person chosen should be able to articulate both in english and hindi, should have the emotional punch, be from the younger herd of the party and a woman (to match the agenda of party on women empowerment)

From what ever I have heard and seen of her during the parliament debates, news channel debates, the ability to coin swift one liners to call the bluff of opposition(the famous RAMBO comment)total loyalty
to the party and its policies, the self made Menakshi Lekki seems to be the ideal choice. She is a non-lutyen in attitude though staying in proximity to the lutyens

As long as people like Jaitly are there, nothing will happen of NDTV. I have lost hope already.

  13. GOI decision on one day ban on NDTV " for its anti-National reporting after Pathankot attack reporting in Jan 2016.is being reviewed.

The political Executive was surely misled by the I&B bureaucracy to keep it in good humour.

I asked myself-- Can NDTV be held solely responsible for the security breach ? I felt impelled to re-visit my earlier views on the issue.
    .
Following questions need answers from I&B ministry :--

    (a) How was NDTV crew allowed access into the prohibited military area including the armouries for filming?

    (b) Why were crew members not briefed about the locational sensitivity?

    (c) Why were precautionary guidelines not drawn-up by I&B mandarins in consultation with the Armed Forces for Media reporting in the aftermath of 26/11 attack in Mumbai ?

    (d) Heads must roll in I&B ,if, culpability of its officials, is established.

    (e) NDTV cannot go unpunished for not applying its common sense.

Such reports raises the respect for the soldiers among general public. This applies to USA, UK and such countries where the reporters are not Jaichands as we have in India.

Govt should also put restrictions on political parties that the elected President terms should be 3 years ONLY & maximum re-elections should be limited to ANY TWO times only. Third time he cannot stand. To flush out Pappu or his chamchas permanently.
Topic experts like Suhel Seth (JNU Prof), who is a seen on all TV channels speaking on every subject as if he is an expert. Quota system that they cannot attend more than ONE on any given day Plus, cannot speak more than TWO topics in entire week or month.

  23. Recently, a reliable twitter handle going by @bhaiyyajispeaks, tweeted that the demonetisation was to be announced on the 4th of Dec. However owing to leaks it was done on 8th Nov. (https://twitter.com/bhaiyyajispeaks/status/797103621313687552). This appears quite possible if the recent events are seen in context. The BusinessLine also reported on 21st Oct that 500 and 1000 denomination notes will be withdrawn from circulation (http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/money-and-banking/coming-soon-to-your-wallet-2000-notes/article9252371.ece). Given these here's a likely explanation that fits the recent events including the abeyance order on the token ban on NDTV. The picture presented here based on circumstantial evidence available and the past behaviour of people connected. No, ground truthing is attempted.
    1. The govt. would have very well planned the demonetisation move some time back to tackle black money and terror funding.
    2. Somebody in MoF/PMO tips off the 5-star Lutyens' media. Given Arun Jaitley's sympathy towards them, one can only hazard where the leak came from
    3. Forewarned, they rush to the US to save their money. Clinton foundation provides for a perfect sanctuary. Also, what better opportunity than covering the presidential elections?
    5. In the meantime, comes a recommendation for a 90 days ban on NDTV, followed by a token 1 day ban order slated for 9th Nov. This on the US election night is not good news at all. Clinton foundation needs a regional Hindi partner if it is to penetrate deep into rural India. Any ban, even if token sends bad signal given the experience NGOs have had in the recent past with GOI (e.g. Ford Foundation). Also, it does not go down well with the audience.
    6. Everything else failing (emergency drama and what not), Prannoy James Roy and Sonal Singh meet with the I&B minister on the 7th of Nov. It is very likely that they threaten to go public with the demonetisation.
    7. PM Modi hears of this, decides decides to advance the date of demonetisation by ~3 weeks to 8th Nov.

AJ's comments on ATMs taking 3 more weeks to be up and running only corroborates the tweet. With his statement, AJ has provided further ammunition to the rabble-rouses. How?
    1. The case in SC on demonetisation is scheduled for hearing on the 15th. One of the pleas is to extend the deadline owing to unpreparedness of machinery. With this "~3 weeks more..." statement, lawyers are bound to argue that the currency be in circulation for a few more days. The govt. will have to have a strong strategy to defend it.
    2. Another, the Winter session is to begin on 15th where a notice for discussing demonetisation has already been given by TMC. Given the past under-preparedness of BJP in general and govt. in particular, the GoI may be put under pressure to extend the circulation period of 500 and 1000 denomination notes thus giving a window for BM operators to cash in.

PM Modi will have to cover his back on both these fronts for this bold step to be successful. Otherwise, he stands to lose all the respect he's got over the past week.

  25. In the coming winter session of Parliament , the Modi sarkar will be under tremendous pressure from the Opposition parties ( custodians of dirty money ) for demanding extension of deadline of currency notes.validity.

The UPA parties and their bootlickers have lost thousands of crores of INR in the surgical strike.

It is learnt that under threat from a TV channel, for exposing the move, PM Modi pre-empted the TV channel by advancing the decision to next day ie Nov 8 so as to stall money laundering by the corrupt netas.
The drive was earlier scheduled for mid- Dec 2016.
But, come what may, there is no hope for a roll-back.

Days of tamasha, high decibals noise and walkouts .would be back.
