Intolerant Evictions

Around the month-end in September 2015 a Muslim man was lynched to death by a mob at Dadri (UP). While there was outrage all over there was sudden spate of artists of all kinds in an unusual campaign. They started the “Award Wapsi campaign” coupled with the “India intolerant” campaign. To rage over some incidents (selectively by the Fiberals) is one thing but for artists of various hues to be returning awards seemed very orchestrated. Nayantara Sahgal was among the first to return her called the Award Wapsi a “successful campaign”. So it was a “campaign”! A few weeks back someone sent me a translation of an article by prominent Tamil/Malayalam writer, B. Jeyamohan. I’m reproducing the translation and the original article appears here.

--- Quote:

"Intolerance"

I learnt the meaning of “Power” when I visited Delhi in 1994 to receive my Sanskriti Samman award and stayed for two days in India International Centre. I did have some familiarities with Information and culture ministries. However, IIC is the place where “Power” is served on a gold plate. IIC is located in a peaceful and luxurious bungalow with lawns, high class food and drinks, quietly moving waiters, the silken English spoken without the upper lip moving, lipsticked women gracefully adjusting their hair, the elegant welcome given to the inner circle members with signs and hugswithout making any noise!

I have stayed in many star hotels later. But I have never seen anywhere the luxury and comfort of IIC. IIC was established and funded by the Indian government as an independent body to promote arts and free thinking. If my memory serves me right, Dr. Karan Singh was also its head. I saw him that evening. I saw every intellectual that I had known through my reading of English language magazines. U R Ananthamurthy was staying there for almost four years almost as a permanent fixture. Girish Karnad was staying for a fewdays. Writers, journalists and thinkers such as Pritish Nandi, Makarand Paranjpe, Shobha De were seen everywhere in the Centre.

It was true that I was overwhelmed that day. Arunmozhi (my wife) ran to Girish Karnad on spotting him and was thrilled to introduce herself to him. I was told that Nayantara Sehgal used to come there on daily basis to have a drink. I saw her that day too. I realized that the two other individuals who were given the award along with me, Rajdeep Sardesai and Anamika Haksar were regulars there. They wear rough Kolkata kurtas and Kolhapuri chappals. Wear small glasses.Women in pure white hair and khadi saris. One of them, they said, was Kapila Vatsyayan. They said, Pupul Jayakar will also come. Wherever you turn, there were literary talks and art discussions.

That pomp kind of unnerved me. The ultra-high intellectualism seen there somewhat alienated me. Venkat Swaminathan, who saw me the next day, immediately recognised my sense of discomfort. He said, "Hey, three fourth of this crowd is just a perfect horde of crows (the Tamil equivalent of psychophants). The snobs that make their living aredraw their power by licking the boots of power centres. Most of them are mere power brokers. At best you may find one or two artists who you will really respect. And they can't bear this atmosphere for too long and willjust run away.

But these are the people who decide what is culture for this country. They can talk about everything in the world for one hour in colourful English with the right amount of jargon. But on the 61st minute, the colour will start fading. Actually they don't know anything in the real sense. Almost all are like the little boxes we find in attics which held things a long time back", said Venkat Swaminathan.

Everyone will have four or five trusts in the name of Service Organizations or Cultural Organizations. They will be flying from one conference to the other. Once they are given accommodation in a government bungalow, they can never be removed from there. In Delhi alone this crowd has illegally occupied about 5,000 bungalows. There is another Power Centre similar to this in Delhi which is called the JNU. It is the same story there too.

"Can't the government get rid of them?", I asked. He said, "normally governments do not think on that line. Because this crowd has stuck itself from the time of Nehru. They support each other. Even if some IAS officials try, they will fall at the right feet and escape".

"There is one more thing added to it" said Venkat Swaminathan. "Not only were these people just parasites, they also derive great power by showing themselves as progressive leftists. Did you notice it?". I said "Yes" with amazement. They are known throughout the world through the numerous seminars they attend. They are highly networked. Journalists around the world seek their opinion on whatever happens in India. They are the people who gave a leftist mask to the Congress Government. If you look at it that way, the amount spent on them is quite low”, he said. They are the trolls sitting on the head of India and nobody can do anything to them. They decide what is art or culture or thought of India.

I have often been to IIC with my Malayalam journalist friends. For them, this is the place to pick rumours and convert them in to news. They know there are no secrets as the day wears out and the spirits rise higher and higher in the head. But I can only pity those people who engage in to political debates based on the supposedly rare gems of wisdoms dished out by these “intellectuals” through the middle pages of English newspapers. These intellectuals never actually know the real politics. They just shout on the basis of the superfluous knowledge and stand points, with the prime space enable by the network. That’s all.

A long time back when I wrote about this Circle, I had mentioned that Barkha Dutt is no one else but a power broker, my own friends fought with me for degrading a “progressive fighter”. Fortunately for me, within a few days, the brokering she did with Tata leaked out through the Nira Radia tapes. (Incidentally, what happened to that case, does anybody know?). But even those stark revelations could not bring down Barkha Dutt from her exalted pedestal even for a month. That isthe kind of power they have.

But now, for the first time in the history of independent India someone has dared to touch this power circle. Warnings were circulated at the lower level for about the last 6 months. Last week the Culture Ministry decided to send a notice to them. This, perhaps, is the reason for these intellectuals to suddenly flare up against “intolerance”. For example, painter Jatin Das, father of actress Nandita Das is occupying a large government bungalow at one of the premium locations in Delhi free of cost for many years. Government has sent an eviction notice to him. This is the real reason for Nandita Das strongly speaking about intolerance in television channels and writing in English newspapers (all diligently carried by the network).

Even for a man as strong Modi, I think he has touched a wrong nerve. These elements are too powerful. They can destroy India through the media worldwide. They can create a picture that rivers of blood are flowing in India. They can make businessmen around the world to halt. They can wreck the tourism industry. The truth is there is no other power centre like this in India. Tolerating them is unavoidable for India. And Modi’s intolerance of them is extremely dangerous – not only for him but for the country itself
.

---- Unquote.

Lutyens-leeches have an extraordinary squatting ability to occupy govt bungalows that they should have long vacated. These include politicians, artists, journalists and an assorted class of elites who have little respect for rules. So when the GOI issued notices to vacate bungalows the campaign by artists was cleverly cloaked as Award Wapsi against intolerance. Yes indeed, the eviction was intolerant, it seems. Read this:

What is likely to cause heartburn to aam aadmi perennially plagued by housing trouble, these plush flats were to be allotted for three years to eminent artistes…. In three cases out of 27, families of artistes are still residing in the flats long after their death…”

And that just looks like the tip of the iceberg. There’s another article in Manorama that shows more of the horror of “Intolerant evictions”:

Next on the eviction list are over 60 journalists who have also stayed beyond their tenure...  The practice of allotting houses to non governmental persons started during the reign of first Prime Jawaharlal Nehru, but the maximum allotments had happened during the tenures of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and P.V. Narasimha Rao”.

Any surprise then that a vast majority of the Commie media and their comrades in arts and entertainment are anti-Modi and desperately want the Congress to return to power?

PS: Although the translated article of B. Jeyamohan appears fairly accurate (as I checked other sites too) please post any inaccuracies noticed in the comments section.

  3. The leeches of Lutyen's have formed a fraternity such that Govts may chane, bureaucracy may change but they remain. No outrage on them by Media as Media too is part of the coterie carefully created by INC. But for Social Media and ppl like you it would have been impossible to know the facts which have remained unknown for decades.

  5. India International Centre was carved out of Lodhi Gardens and is almost totally government taxpayer funded. However, they still refrain from adhering to the RTI Act of India, which is another story altogether. The IIC scam is probably bigger than the CWG scam also because it is ongoing.

  6. Remarkable post Ravinar,

This is what I fear. For me, Modi's attempt at building India though important are not paramount for me. The complete destruction and demolition of the Lutyens brigade is more important for it servers as the real defensive layer or real resistance to any kind of reform in this country. You just added journalists, writers, politicians and pure power brokers are part of this corrupt pimp group.
You have not added a host of lawyers and more importantly judges who still occupy these bungalows directly or indirectly and settled there for decades.
If you do consider last few judgements of the SC itself, you would see that the Judiciary institutions is needlessly hostile to Modi and the reason is not just Modi govt interfereing through NJAC but also with Lutyen's brigade.

When initial results showed BJP leading, he was saying Nitish did these wrong things and Amit shah spending huge amount of time in Bihar has helped BJP. After the trend changed I stopped watching ndtv.

The target now should be to make it well known among all Indians. Publish a list of award vapasi and eviction notice side by side. Create a facebook page of squatters. Maybe make a poll under each -- who should be evicted and who should be spared. LOL . I mean if they can orchestrate a campaign, whats stopping us bhakts from a similar campaign.

  13. Your labelling of these intellectuals as leftists and at the same time calling them as power brokers for private firms like Tata is confusing. I agree that middle men are making hampering the country's progress. That is why the private firms brought a party which is so upper class friendly that it is mocked as the Bhartiya Banya Party. Banya being a slang for businessman. With a man, known for his proximity to business class, it was an icing on the cake for firms like Adani when BJP came to power. Why even Nitin Gadkari had spent some time on a private yacht of the Hinduja brothers prior to the elections. so with a govt largely composed of 'dalals' itself, there is no need of these so called 'power brokers' and that is why they started this 'intolerance movement', isn't it?
    PS: Pun intended ;-)

    1. Dear Sir,
leftist and power broker are not exclusive , so a leftist can be a power broker like Sri H. Surjit and Sri P.Karat [ hopefully you are aged enough to know the political parleys of 1990s and 2004-07 ].
Similarly "banya"is not slang. it is collective noun for "trading community" in hindi. In Pakistan and among some Muslims "banya" is slang for "kafirs" [ See the tagline of Indian movie "Raees" , which exemplifies this prejudice].

Middle man performs a very critical role in all human activities , It brings one with "need " in contact with one "having solution". In the process he makes his living . Just think of a sick person moving around hundreds of pharmacy shop to look for cure but not knowing "what ails him" and "which medicine can cure him ". Now a doctor[ a middle man ] comes into picture which brings "a patient " in contact with a pharmacy shop where that particular medicine is available. This "knowledge"is what earns money for doctor . Now hopefully you will understand the importance of middleman .

  16. Great article from MediaCrooks, uncovering the the cause of Intolerance Campaign by Media stalwarts & Award Wapasis. Respects!

Yes, I agree with the article - it's a real heartburn for these people residing in Govt bunglows to vacate them! They may have thought, they are much above the rest of the crowd to be facilitated in spacious Govt bunglows and plush Govt flats in Lutyens Delhi.

CAG rules are meant for ordinary govt employees, but not for them! No matter they may become parasites!! For ordinary people there is AK ! But for them? - where can they live outside Lutyens Delhi? How can they transit overcrowded traffic of Delhi?.. Journalism is at stake! Intellectuality is at stake!! Should they emulate Ustad Bismillah Khan, an iconic Shehnai maestro who was also honoured with the Bharat Ratna?? That's too much for asking!!

If Modi Govt wants to go by CAG rule book, it's intolerance on his part!! So his intoerance to go by book is to be exposed at all appropriate occassions....and they (psuedo journalists and pseudo Intellectuals) ran a successful campaign, since Oct'15, even at the risk of Nation's image!

We don't need outside enemies to torment us, but these parasitic journos are adequate!

  24. I am glad no one yet commented that Ravinar strayed from his stated path in this post, as some stupid wrote here earlier.

Now, if a government couldn't handle its own citizen groups however powerful their collective clout could be, well, there was no point calling it a government in the first place.

This exactly is where I differ with all those blind bhakts of Modi. They cite all sorts of excuses for Modi and curse me when I speak out my mind, utter the facts on twitter. They often out-beat AAPiyans on this count.

I question why wasn’t there an attempt to charge the corrupt in the erstwhile regime – a major electioneering plank on which Modi sailed. That he would request the SC to form special courts to try and punish the guilty in a certain time frame - a year - is no more heard of.

    Some excuses they put-forth are: Modi right now is focused on development and international relations. He would do so in ’17;
the judiciary is inimical etc. etc.

Just to cite an example - the whole world knows that a good 90% of the judiciary are utterly corrupt. With all the intelligence at his beck and call, couldn’t Modi collect enough on the disproportionate assets that most in the judiciary possess?
Indira did a lot better, showed files of evidence to whoever she wished to do the crawling.

Same goes with the anti-national media houses/journos.

A mere photo seen the other day on twitter - Her Highness Burkha, the de facto FM-cum-PM being escorted by Naval officials in all pomp at IFR events was proof enough to know what this government was capable of.

Imagine the fate of a nation ruled by the honey-trapped!!

After viewing the two year governance by Modi, I came to believe that we as a nation, are beyond redemption.

I see either of these three for this down-fall:

    1. Modi strayed into a dream of being hailed a statesman or the next mahatma.
    2. Modi is compromised by the ConG dalaal crook AJ - God knows on what.
    3. Modi was scared shit for his life from International forces.

And as always, this too is a great, great post from Ravinar.

    3. @Ramkrishna Rao. Great comment. I have been saying years before Modi was even considered as PM candidate that Modi can take Gujarat to great heights, but he would fail miserably as PM, Modi should go back to Gujarat and become CM, he is a total misfit in Delhi. The power structure in Delhi and north India is controlled by North Indians. They have enjoyed a monopoly over power for more than 60 years and they are not likely to yield it to outsiders anytime soon. We have seen how the 'outsider' factor played out in Bihar polls. We have seen how outsiders like Morarji Desai fared in Delhi, we have seen how PV Narsimha Rao was treated there. Even Gandhiji had realised that he had been conned by Nehru and his gang, that is why he called for winding up the Congress party. We have seen how Anna Hazare was fooled, we have seen how Ramdevji has now transformed into a tycoon with an empire worth hundreds of crores.

So, Modi seemed a refreshing change. But the way it is going, I am also equally skeptical! Especially, the handling of the Electronic Media, which is like a Bull in a China shop! Modi seems to have lost his mojo and has fallen into the trap of being called a 'Statesman'!!

    5. India is a system of behemoth proportions and is a lot more than the sum of its parts. This imparts an inherent inertia to its being. The more force one applies to overcome this inertia, the greater the resistance. Vacuum has no place in a democracy and for precisely this reason, the impulse of "nuking" an existing system, however rotten it may be, is counter productive. Change must be at a pace that integrates well. We have suffered 60+years at the hands of one ideology. Let's be patient for a few years more. Modi is no God,but he is sure a tough human being who will give his best or die trying. We are equally responsible for our fate, as citizens if India.

    6. Dear Mr Rao,

Have you not already sensed the changes in the atmosphere? Your type of arguments are being used for past 18 months soon after NAMO took oath. What you don't realise is NAMO is not some re-incarnation but an honest Politician. He will do many things which his supporters may or may not appreciate but still help him in his goals. Putting many individuals in jail is alright but using all his resources to ensure people go to jail would make him an autocrat like Indira Nehru. We already see Chinese Gandhi's fighting cases in courts, corruption brought down in many areas, many state level Congress leaders are already facing corruption cases in courts, now with this article we know how this Govt is handling the Intolerant Padmashree holders. So while you may want to project Indira Nehru as India's best Prime Minister we respectfully disagree.

    7. Dear Pranjal, your scientific interpretation is bang on..... 👍

    8. I am aghast at being categorized by some as one who eulogized or lionized Indira's autocratic rule. I am sorry, but that wasn't quite smart on their part, I ascertain.

I was pointing out how Indira practised the age-old method of blackmail, albeit for evil ends. Blackmail can be a great tool for a positive cause too.

You would not be equipped to prosecute and jail all the guilty. But can surely set a few examples to bring in the fear of the Law among the corrupt and also decimate your opposite camp whom you accused as thieves all along your campaign trail.

Here exactly is where the very first hurdle is encountered. A major chunk in the judiciary were nurtured and well integrated into the ConG ecosystem. Yet, being predominantly corrupt is their soft belly. Prosecute one or two of'em with water-tight evidence and set an example or two for the rest of the bad eggs. You behave, else.... Unless the rogue elements in the judiciary are tamed, not a single corruption case can move an inch forward.

Instead, you are now seen by many of your own supporters as the prime protector of the corrupt family and media houses/journos.

Your reluctance to act will be perceived as cowardice, that would allow all and sundry to gain courage and strength to unsettle you, where you can't progress in your agenda of nation-building that you aimed for. Which exactly is happening today.

If I can't see this, well, I can only curse my creator.

      Thanks

  26. Nothing more damaging could be done to Modi Ji than the 13 years of rabble-rousing by these pimps on the Gujarat riots as if it was personally orchestrated by Modi Ji. People have shown them the doors and elected Modi Ji for the 4th time as CM for the same State and PM of this country. So Modi Ji should only continue strive hard to fulfil the aspirations of millions of Indians who have reposed great confidence in him and see him as the modern Netaji, a true nationalist in taking this country forward in all fronts. So Modi Ji even for a minute need not have to fear these power mongers and attention seekers, but rather hard petal on them and cut them to size.
Any laxity on this front will only give more leeway to these vultures in discrediting this Government at every given opportunity in & Outside India. So the best thing is bring out the wrong doings of these vultures like over staying in Govt bungalows, enjoying the freebies and their connection to the cocktail circuits etc., to public domain along with evidences.
This would empower the public and make them fully aware of their filthy side, thus work almost like an RTI against these scoundrels. Whatever ranting these guys would indulge in through their pet anti-Indian national televisions screaming vendetta politics by Modi Govt, malicious campaign etc., would not work out in their favour.
So the need of the hour is to bring the ugly truths and their filthy private lives for millions of Indians to know in their native languages and this should be done without wasting any further time.

So let us work towards a KhanChris mukth bharat(KMB). KMB will ensure automatic development of the GDP also as a natural outcome.

  41. My two Naya Paisa thought. The title of the article should be "Lutyen's Leeches". That serves it better. Perhaps trends well too!

  42. Thanks Ravi.. I have heard and personally seen people changing their mind towards all these vultures. Thanks to blogs of yours and others. To be honest, there are multiple examples in entire India of such power games and vultures. I will quote one example, which I have seen and heard in detail

"Very well known Dancer of Gujarat (She). She has a long and complex network in nehru foundation of gujarat with artists. So, she uses her networks to portray how one artists (who licks her feet) is good than other. By this way she tries to lobby the artists to get awards. Once awards are received, the artists is ready to anything for her. Here starts actual game. She personally be contacted by politicians to orchestrate intolerance kind of show/campaign by using big/famous names. So she uses such awardees, who are on her given bread crumbs as a handle (love to call henchmen) to come in march or whatever." And she talks about Gujarati Asmita, what a vulture!

I am sure as mentioned above, lutyen must have scripted entire intolerance campaign, but nothing will happen to them and if modi tries (as he is already doing), Mallikarjun kharge's words may be true "Raktpat hoga".. Hey prabhu, come and save us Indian, modi only is not enough. Please keep your promise as "Yada yada hi dharmasya".

    2. And that's when she got exposed. A bunch of self serving, deluded idiots. Oblivion and obscurity is what they rightly deserve.

  43. Though much of media is maligned thanks to the Barkha Dutts and Rajdeep Sardesais among them, it's a pity we don't have a group of well-meaning professionals who can counter the might of these "power-brokers". It's also amazing how the Radiia Tapes scandal has quietly died down, as many popular and powerful mediapersons like Barkha Dutt and Rajdeep Sardesai figured in it. But, it's equally amazing why the Govt of India didn't pursue the case and pin down these power-brokers masquerading as mediapersons. I wish more people like Ravinar would highlight the deep-seated rot within the media / Press in India, and expose all those who occupy their undeserving highly exalted status in the media industry, not just sprawling bungalows in Lutyens Delhi.

  46. U.R.Anantha Murthy who ridiculed and derided everything about Hindu customs and rituals did not leave any 'will' asking that no ritual should be performed after his death.Orthodox Brahmin rituals were performed for hours together on his death. We have the other Kannada literary figure,Girish Karnad who insultingly called Kempe Gowda as 'just a footling'strongly opposing the naming of Bangalore airport after him.He wanted it to be named after Tipu Sultan a Muslim ruler more bigoted than even Aurangzeb. You will never see these intellectuals ever writing on the mediocrity of a Sonia or a duffer like Rahul Gandhi.
