Hasta La Teesta... Baby!

In the famous action movie ‘DieHard’ John Mclane’s wife isn’t sure if he’s dead or alive after another round of battle with the terrorists. Karl, one of the terrorists, then walks into the hostage-holding area raving mad, screaming and smashing everything in sight. She then whispers to a colleague “he’s still alive”. To the puzzled colleague she whispers her reasoning “Only John can drive somebody that crazy”. That is true for many villains. Sooner or later they lose their cool when their best laid plans go wrong. Something like that happened on TimesNow on the night of February 9 with Teesta Setalvad. The discussion was on the closure report of the SIT probing Gujarat riots which has reportedly given a clean chit to Narendra Modi on allegations of his involvement in the 2002 riots. Naturally, this is something Teesta has been unable to stomach.

It took someone like Meenakshi Lekhi, a lawyer from BJP who frequently appears on TV panels, and is an equally feisty lady to drive Teesta crazy and up the wall when she said: “..She (Teesta) has been repeatedly been committing perjury before the courts…will send you those 340 petitions”. Teesta’s response? She rants “That’s a lie, no court has held me guilty of perjury..” and then she walks out of the show. Wait a minute! No court has held her guilty? That is surprising because all along she has held Modi guilty of murder, guilty for women raped and tortured, called him names along with others. If one were to go by the number of times Teesta has declared Modi guilty you would believe a thousand courts have held him guilty. Yet, it’s only Teesta who’s not guilty of perjury because no court has said so. The clip below shows her moment when Lekhi drives her crazy like Mclane did the terrorist in DieHard:

The whole idea that Modi is guilty even when there’s no FIR against him, even when no court has pronounced him guilty is a rule that is concocted by Teesta and others. In contrast the SIT has indicted Teesta on her fake affidavits and even her own colleagues have filed cases against her on her lies and coercive methods.  One hopes Obnoxious Arnab and other TV mullahs learn a lesson: Teesta is unfit to be on any panel discussing justice for anyone. Her washing machine for justice, also known as Citizens for Justice, is more like a Ponzi scheme that thrives on lies, lies and more lies. Needless to say, her campaign has been funded in the past by political parties like the Congress and the CPM according to the page about her on Wikipedia.

Teesta wasn’t alone though. The campaign of calumny was carried out by Barkha Dutt, Rajdeep Sardesai, their TV channels, Shabnam Hashmi, Harsh Mandar, Vir Sanghvi, Sanjiv Bhatt, Mallika Sarabhai and many more. Some of them are fortunate Modi hasn't prosecuted them for defamation in calling him a 'mass murderer' or 'common criminal'. In Indian media history this has to be the biggest campaign of lies ever carried out by a bunch of people. Some of them have already protested the SIT closure report and that Modi shouldn’t be given a clean chit. It is worth remembering that the SIT itself was an outcome of Teesta and others petitioning the Supreme Court. As someone pointed out; it is a travesty and mockery of justice when it doesn’t go their way.

Just in case we forget this same Teesta in a way justified the Godhra burning of 59 Hindus with this comment on the day of the incident:  "While I condemn today's gruesome attack, you cannot pick up an incident in isolation. Let us not forget the provocation. These people were not going for a benign assembly. They were indulging in blatant and unlawful mobilization to build a temple and deliberately provoke the Muslims in India." So because they Hindus were assembling for the temple the muslims were provoked and were justified in the burning of people. It is such sick logic that results in the kind of backlash that Godhra brought about.

In their enthusiasm to please their political masters some of these activists and media celebs had led the Jafri family up a garden path. They led the family to believe the only justice is the hanging of Modi. Everything the lie-mongers claimed has been negated by the SIT. The frivolous affidavits by Sanjiv Bhatt have also been reduced to toilet paper, to put it mildly. It might be worth noting that the complainants withdrew the name of Rahul Sharma from their petition. He is supposedly an anti-Modi cop. For long the conniving media have treated Teesta Setalvad as some super expert on the Gujarat riots. Where justice for the victims is concerned she has probably done the greatest disservice by making destroy-Modi her sole and personal ambition. The undeniable fact remains that the SIT didn’t find anything against Narendra Modi and some others to implicate them in the killing of Ehsan Jafri or other cases.

The media has lost the moral, political and legal battle against Modi on the Gujarat riots. What new campaign they may come up with next is left to their conscience. But one thing they must learn is bringing in spurious panelists with ulterior motives frequently to tarnish someone doesn’t pay. Teesta Setalvad is supposedly a lawyer. Imagine her walking out of a court of law when proceedings don’t suit her. Justice Arnab runs his TV channel like a mock court but walking out on a show because of intolerance of others' criticism is the final sign of a loser. The TV channels will do well not to bring her back on again ever. Her fame and game are up in flames! And in all probability Teesta, with all the cases against her, might see jail far before Modi, if he ever does at all. In this case, if not the real Arnie the Terminator, our own Obnoxious Arnie can well afford to say “Hasta la vista” to her or should the media be telling her “Hasta la Teesta… Baby!”

  1. The moment Mennakshi Lekhi referring to Teesta said " She has been repeatedly been committing perjury before the courts", Teesta hangs down her head....that should tell the real story. Body language can tell u real stuffs !

  2. I feel sad for the victims who are being used in this game by opportunists like Teesta. Its not like she is some humanist or an activist looking for justice. You should expose what she had been doing until 2002 when she set up this NGO funded by congis and Middle east (quoting Lekhi). That will reveal her real intentions (That should be your next piece, please.). Worst form of ambulance chasing.

What many forget to mention in such reporting is there are already many arrested for the riots. But that's not the outcome what such Modi bashers want to see. They somehow want to pull down Modi. Its not about justice for victims. That's the job these gatekeeping dogs in the media do - protect the 'family' from future threats. Already BJP is such a fractured and compromised opposition. There are some good low rung leaders such as MLekhi and NSitaraman. Whats throttling the BJP is the confused and compromised leadership which has formed a cartel with sonia. A real opposition would be on a feeding frenzy with all the scams and matter opened up someone like Swamy and the courts.

A good churn in the top can save it though with people like Modi, Lekhi, irani and Shourie with Swamy supporting as part of the NDA. Jaitley and Sushma are so eloquent but wonder whats stopping them from being more vocal and decisive. Wonder if they have some skeletons in their closet as well.

    1. @Shyam,i agree with your observations about the top brass of BJP leadership. There is a holier than thou attitude amongst them when it comes to dealing with the anti Modi crowd. These are the times that we sorely miss the likes of Pramod Mahajan who had the firepower to silence anyone in a Media debate. I have even seen Abhishek Sighvi get defensive while facing him. Today we see a Ravishankar prasad fighting a losing battle and the ones like Meenakshi Lekhi and Nirmala outdoing him in every respect. These ladies are the only saving grace for a lacklusture bunch called BJP.

    2. The real opposition Party at the moment is not Bjp but Shri Subramanian Swamy- a one man army. He is doing what bjp should have been doing- exposing the congress and that Italian air hostess-cum -thug politician Sonia. But the lackadaisical manner in which the is raising issues concerning Sonia's family history, her educational qualification and many such cases one is bound to believe that there is secret agreement between Sonia and rhe top brass Bjp leader.

Arnab is a useless egoist, thinks himself to be the only one available Intelligent on the whole of Universe, but fool forgets that it's us the people raises his TRP's without us he is a Big Zero ( a real one unlike Sibal Zero)... looking forward for your article on Raju Ramchandran and Ashish Khaitan...

  6. Why can't BJP go to court against print and TV media that have used words like Pogrom and Genocide? Neither
the number that died (over 1200),
the ratio of deaths 40 Hindus to 60 Muslims (in a population where there are 80% Hindus the breakup could have been 20/80 if both sides were equally aggressive, implying that most Hindus are peaceful),
the ratio of those that died in police firing 60 Hindus to 40 Muslims, and
    the duration of the riots,
justifies the use of either word Genocide and Pogrom. Genocide is defined as the deliberate and systematic extermination of a racial, cultural, or political group. A pogrom is defined as an organized massacre. How can 3 day riots be characterised as genocide? How can riots triggered by a burning to death of innocent pilgrims from the opposing side be considered as organized massacre or a pogrom? Based on this, any media group that has in the past used these two words need to apologize for using inappropriate words as well as state that the usage was wrong based on statistics and findings of courts and other committees. If BJP has any self-respect, if must approach courts for objectionable use of these words.

  7. I was watching that show and it was really heartening to see that whore Teesta getting cornered. She virtually ran away from the show like a mad dog pelted by a stone!!! In the same show, Ms. Irani virtually ripped apart that goon VOID Sharma and he had no answers to her and was fumbling and mumbling for words. These two ladies were at their fiery best and they should along with Ms. Nirmala Sitaraman should form the troika for the BJP

  9. Teesta was similarly driven up the wall and given on the face by Nirmala Seetharaman on ndtv.. one could easily see Teesta baby losing her cool and very uncomfortable.. she was rescued by the anchor... for the first time enjoyed some discussion on NDTV... when the bjp member was reading the email exchange between her and Bhatt on cnn ibn, she was so helpless....

  10. Hats off to the likes of Ms Seetharaman, Ms Irani and Ms Lekhi for holding fort in hostile atmosphere of MSM. But equally bewildering is lack of dearth in feisty spokespersons from BJP. I have sometimes doubts over kidglove treatment offered by likes of Swaraj and Jaitley towards extreme follies of Congress and the embedded media. I would like Ravinar to put light on this aspect as well.

  11. Very funny. I remember vividly the reactions when Modi walked out of a program hosted by karan thapar. The same people here were gloating and praising modi for putting thapar in his place. If a modi walk out is called bravery, why not a walk out by teesta?

    1. Modi was supposed to face a balanced question answer session with Karan. Instead he found himself in the Kangaroo court of MSM. He graciously left out of such situation. He didn't rabble rouse like Teesta. Whereas Teesta was in a show where she was supposed to be pitted against a debating panel as ferocious as herself. She chickened out. There is fundamental difference between two cases.

      Delete
    2. Karan is a well known left liberal. How can anyone in their right mind assume he would give credibility to modi in his Q and A? He is supposed to ask tough questions which make the guests squirm. Modi should have combated him instead of running away like a coward. Teesta didnt come to the show to talk about her alleged perjury, she came to discuss the leaked SIT report.

    3. The interviewer or anchor has to leave out his "left liberal" or "right conservative" baggage out of TV studio while interviewing his or her subject. The present cabal of "left liberal" TV News superstars have forgotten this basic tenet of neutrality in debates. They try to enforce their agenda on debate or over interviewee. The TV News anchor has to be a moderator not enforcer.

    4. Come on, journalists are also human beings. Get out of your utopian world. A right wing journalist like that star news deepak tries to put his view on the panelists every time. Do you raise your voice then? Stop this hypocrisy and get real. No wonder your fellow travellers in BJP who has the same attitude and mindset are watching porn while talking about high moral values outside for public consumption.

Why did Modi run away like a coward? Karan asked him about 2002 and he said he doesnt want to reply. It is same as Teesta and I dont see any difference.

      Delete
    5. Ask Karan to talk in same vein with Sonia or Rahul over host of issues under Congress rule. Conduct an interview with same vigour/vitriol with Jagdish Tytler or Sajjan Kumar over 1984 riots. Not to forget late Rajiv over his reaction after Indira's demise. And as faithful to Congress and left liberal tradition you only gloss over negativities of BJP. No wonder you conveniently forgot N.D.Tiwari in Hyderabad Rajbhavan. Nobody here is defending transgressions of BJP minisiters in Karnataka. The question here is to expect parity from so called liberal media who are occupying the opinion making space in English media.

    6. Very rightly said Anonymous. This is another one of those CONgi cronies who can only glorify a scum bag like Teesta. I did not see that goon Karan's interview. But, I have seen his other interviews with both the CON's and the opposition leaders. When ever he interviews the CON's it will be like talking to a child and when ever he talks to the opposition leaders you could see the venom in his eyes.. the recent one was his interview with Mani Shankar Aiyar... where he was kid-gloving Aiyar. The point is that on that day Teesta ran off from the show like a pig pelted by a stone. And coming Na Mo's walking off, today he is proved right. Can this CON crony Loneranger say why till date there is not even one FIR against him inspite of thousands of media trials on him which pronounced him guilty? Whereas Teesta has already been slapped by court after court and she is on an anticipatory bail. Ofcourse, people will question her bonafides , if she has had credible defence she should have defended herself. But, since she did not have anything she ran off... that is it.

      Delete
    7. Some correction required here. Anybody who is accusing Na Mo of running away like a coward should revisit the interview. NaMo initially answered in very dignified way all the questions Karan was asking. But it was Karan's insistance on making Na Mo "confess his guilt" that crossed all journalistic boundaries. Ofcourse Karan can ask pointed questions, but he has no right to keep asking the same question so as to extract what he wants hear or what he wants the subject to say. Again Na Mo did not run away. He in very polite and dignified way said he will not continue the QA session. The reason was obvious. Karan was using his journalist status to act like what all this Hate Brigade has been doing since 10 years.

As for Teesta, LOL!!! At just mention of perjury she ran away.. did not have guts to answer even once.. and in another show she went hystrical and was beggin Rajdeep to save her when her email exchange with that idiot Sanjeev Bhatt was mentioned... LOL!!!

The subject of discussion on timesnow was on the leaked SIT report. It WAS NOT the so called perjury of teesta. Why should she reply to questions which are not related to the topic which she was called for? She went off because the discussion would have got derailed. For the record, the perjury committed by her is a figment of imagination of the netizens belonging to the right wing. The court had few observations to make which do not fall under perjury.I will request you and your colleagues to read it before commenting.

    1. Yes ofcourse the discussion was about leaked SIT report. No arguments about it. But forget not she was part of a panel discussion. She had all the rights to not to respond but instead talk about SIT report. But what option she chooses? Run away! LOL! Are you not aware that so called panel discussions on MSM do get into different topics. And ofcourse, when she questioned the credibility of Raghavan, did you say she should be talking about SIT rather than indulge in personal character assasination of R K Raghavan whose character is impeachable? Was not SIT as well as amus curies formed due to her and her like minded dumbshits filing petition with supreme court? Just because they did not agree with her form of justice, she started attacking their credibility.

And before advising me or my colleagues to read it, just tell us why did she seek anticipatory bail if it was mere observation and not perjury??? Why should she fear arrest if it was only observation and not indictment?? And was not she slapped by the highest court for trying to bring in internaitonal community when case was before supreme court there by casting doubts on the national judiciary???

So called liberals and seculars are permanent guests in Alice's wonderland! Enjoy your stay.

    2. The thing is, a person who has lost all credibility like Teesta has no rights to question the credibility of Raghavan... and she was doing it. So it was necessary to show her she has no grounds to stand from where she could preach justice when she herself has been found to have used dubious means to misguide the court and its just the courts patience and generosity that she is out there free and not doing her jail time.

  15. Karan Thapar whether he interrogates Modi or Salman Khursid or for that matter Team Anna, it is shoddy journalism. So walking out of his programme in the first place can be a justifiable after-thought. There’s no question that a leader like Modi don’t deserve a test-bench expose at the hands of KT. Two, Teesta Setalvad and even if the most foolish in the country as yet don’t know that she’s paid by the Congress to do what she is doing, God save India’s men of wisdom! So, picking out the good or bad of what she does is irrelevant to our intelligence. It isn’t worth it, in the first place except that for men like Arnab or Rahul Kanwal, Barkha and Sardesai, it is livelihood and so Teesta is handsome and beautiful for the food.

In the end, Karan Thapar, whenever comes to grin before us, attempts a copy of HARDtalk by Stephen Sackur with the Indian politicians, the act of which is loaded with bias, perversion and a bundle of stupid face-jerking expressions. I pity those who run his show and those who go there to be his victim!

    2. Frankly speaking Modi is not comfortable at the language, I have seen the interview, modi was asking technical and legal aspect like show me the proof or judgement, on the other hand thapper was firing redundancies at the highest level having no intellectual strength. Karan thapper should ask questions and wait for the modi's words. He was repeating samething continuously, he was speaking too much more than required from an interviewer, it seemed it was not modi who was supposed to be interviewed, it was a self interview.

  17. Strange that questions about Perjury for Teesta are considered out of context on discussing SIT report on Post Gujrat Riots, while bringing Modi and gujrat riots when discussing anything under the sun by the so called liberals is considered acceptable.

What journalistic brilliance!! Loneranger this must be your idea of unbiased reporting

BJP should start giving it back to Congress/Left with full force. Boycott the TV channels (2-3 english ones) to hurt their credibility.

MSM channels will fall in line sooner than expected. Hit them where it hurts them most. BJP should say it at every forum that they are not going to MSM since they are not trustworthy.

Suddenly BJP will be taken seriously
