DISGRACE

The anti-Hindu colonial cousins who were pimping for the Congress party all this while are feeling frustrated. They were fully aware the Congress was running a corrupt govt but did all they could to white-wash their sins. Both CNN-IBN and their colonial cousin NDTV who have since given up their hopes for Congress and became AAPSucker Proxies in the last six months or so are now forced to find more innovative ways of playing out their lies and their slime. On one hand they are now more and more desperate to find mud to hurl at Narendra Modi and BJP while on the other they are finding it difficult to find anything good about Congress to tout. The new, additional, problem is they are also having to find a host of excuses and spins to defend the sins of their adopted child AAP and Arvind Kejriwal.

Let’s go first with AAP’s chief-sucker; Rajdeep Sardesai. On March 7 Arvind Kejriwal took a private chartered flight from Jaipur to Delhi to attend the India Today conclave. The reason AK offered is no other flights were available (which is not accurate). Naturally, the public and some in the media had to ask why a person who was questioning other politicians on using private jets didn’t bat an eyelid before using one himself. But such questions were all noise, rubbish and sensationalism as Rajdeep would have the world believe. Here’s what he had to first say:

Wow! RS tells us angrily that the flight was chartered by India Today so there was nothing in it. This is how perverts in politics react but then RS is no different than perverted politicians. It doesn’t occur to him that nobody said AK can’t use private jets for a reason except he himself. The terrible part is that AK knew his schedules quite well and still landed in a situation where he had to use the largesse from a media house. Had it been someone else in place of AK I am confident RS would have screamed his head off about hypocrisy. Instead, he goes on a rant about sensation and chaos which is equally prevalent in the nonsense he and his Deputy churn out with regular monotony. Fact is, RS is upset that his darling AK has been wrong-footed and on the defensive so he plays the clean-up artist on his behalf. The issue is not just who paid for the flight but the kind of luxury and Non-AamAadmi type benefits that AK had promised to shun. But hey, trust Rajdeep to support hypocrisy anytime if it is by his own darlings in politics. Had it been Modi in AK’s place Rajdeep would have puked on your screens on Twitter lines. His anger doesn’t stop there:

Someone tells him why rake up the issue when the whole world knows who paid for AK’s flight and that gets Rajdeep’s Goatnee. So all those sense, sensationalism and chaos thing go into the garbage called CNN-IBN and Rajdeep mindlessly abuses Rakhi Sawant for his miserable life brought about by AK’s unconscionable act of hypocrisy and with the rising popularity of TimesNow. So he implies Rakhi Sawant is some kind of frivolous “Item Girl” who can be equated to the Presstitutes of the media. Well, according to Rajdeep’s ethics code that is genuine “sense”. Even if that were so, maybe it would make more sense to say “Sagarikation” of journalism since the biggest moron of all in cheap, senseless journalism is none other than CNN-IBN’s Category5Moron herself. Oops! But Rajdeep’s morons are angels, others’ morons are senseless. We get it! Evidently, frustrations of a loser is building up faster than you can say ‘AAP’. The other reason for abusing Rakhi is, obviously, because she has endorsed Modi for PM. Coincidence?

If Rajdeep is frustrated can his cousins at NDTV be far behind? I guess not. On March 8 there was some story about BJP discussing seat allocation and there being some arguments over the Varanasi seat LS ticket. This was supposedly between Rajnath Singh, Murli Manohar Joshi and Sushma Swaraj over whether Modi should be given a ticket for Varanasi where MMJ is the sitting MP.  So NDTV quickly did what they always do. They put out a fake news alert about a tweet of Sushma Swaraj which was never made and then made a withdrawal. Here it is:

The Congress doormats at NDTV do not miss any chance that can target BJP or Modi and put out news that can be damaging to BJP. This one was the culmination of a decade of lies and malicious misrepresentation. Considering it was election season the BJP decided enough is enough of the nonsense of NDTV and decided to boycott the channel till further announcement.

Interestingly, even NDTV’s withdrawal of the news alert and their apology is mischievous. They tweet that Sushma didn’t tweet about a “Modi wave” which is cleverly meant to imply she says there’s no Modi wave. The withdrawal should have actually been for the part that implied “Modi is looking for a safe-seat in UP”.  NDTV should have said “Sushma did not say Modi is looking for a safe seat” but trust NDTV to be pathetic liars even in a correction. The vicious filth and manipulation that flow through this channel have finally come to a peak. Their financial crimes are also being discussed all over.

I would normally not recommend boycott of any news media no matter how much of a low-life they are. I would advise to be choosy on which discussions to participate in rather than a boycott but NDTV has taken their anti-Hindu, anti-Modi and anti-BJP filth so far that I prefer to endorse this temporary ban. In any case, I expect this channel to be buried in legal cases in the near future.

Both NDTV and CNN-IBN have been a thorough disgrace in the above episodes. It is in sync with their character. Rajdeep sinks deeper in his quick-sludge every single day. NDTV, of course, has been a disgrace all its life.

Tweet-Crimes & The Real Watchdogs

After Radiagate rattled the media and the nation CNN-IBN ran a programme on lobbying and whether it should be legalised. Supporting the legalisation of lobbying were quite a few tweets that did not seem genuine. Fake tweets have been employed some channels to further their agenda quite frequently and consistently. Take for instance a Twitter handle called @campuscola. Tweets from this account frequently appear on TimesNow but if you look closely almost all of Campuscola’s tweets are to just one programme: Arnab Goswami’s  NewsHour on TimesNow. Naturally, it makes one wonder why anyone would be so obsessed with the NewsHour. But unlike fake Twitter accounts there are many others who have actually become the real watchdog over the mainstream media.

If TV news is instant and a hit and run operation it no more escapes the scrutiny of the social network just as instantly. And to suit their bias, slant and agenda news channels are now famous for twisting and manipulating tweets hoping nobody will notice. But the exact opposite is happening. Every goof up, every deception and every abuse of tweets are instantly spotted by tweeters and relayed over the twitterworld.

Blogger @Scamsutra has painstakingly listed how fake tweets are milked by news channels to further their agenda. His detailed post ‘Milking fake tweets’ around May 2011 has a long list of tweet-crimes by our news channels. He’s not the only one, Anil Kohli (@anilkohli54) started a post in December 2010 on his blog site which he updates frequently with incidents of tweet-abuse by news channels. Apart from tweet-abuse Kohli also lists misuse of videos and tweets manipulated by news channels and you can read the whole lot in his continuing post titled: ‘Twitter a case of Fatal attraction….’

In November 2011 when Sagarika Ghose and CNN-IBN carried out a fraud on its viewers through wilful deception involving a ‘Look-live’ interview of Sri Sri Ravishankar as a LIVE programme, tweeters were quick to expose the channel again. For that sorry episode the channel not only apologised publicly but Sagarika apologised to Sri Sri personally as well. However, I still strongly believe that for such a farce Sagarika should have been sacked from the channel. They don’t seem to learn though. The latest in the continuing episode of tweet-crimes comes from Arnab Goswami’s TimesNow. Arnab was doing his best to rubbish articles on Narendra Modi by TIME magazine and the Brookings Institute. In support of this enthusiastic Modi-bashing TimesNow went on to brazenly manipulate a tweet by me to appear as if it supported the channel’s theories and agenda. The ‘Sack Sagarika’ episode has now forced all channels to prominently display on screen whether the programme is Live or Recorded. This is the power of social network in action.

The abridged and manipulated tweet as used by TimesNow and my original tweet are captured in the pic to the left. This pic was created by another observant Twitter user @Surnell. The original pic of the abridged tweet was captured by another sharp tweeter @DilipSanchora. It is somewhat hard to believe that a channel like TimesNow has operators who can’t seem to understand simple tweets and in their enthusiasm to quote tweets in support of their programme end up twisting up, manipulating and completely altering the meaning of a statement. Are they really that dumb? Quite possible! Are they indulging in wilful tweet-crimes to support their agenda? Quite possible!

All it took was one stern email to TimesNow’s legal cell and within a week they caved in. On March 26 the channel scrolled an apology that ran throughout the duration of its NewsHour programme. The scrolled apology couldn’t be captured on video but this is what the apology read (partly shown in the 2nd pic provided by @Equateall):

On March 19, 2012 a tweet by @mediacrooks was abridged by us ….  the error is regretted and an apology offered”.

That is one part. The better part is that the Press Council of India (PCI) or the National Broadcasters Association (NBA) need not be the only bodies for taking up illegitimate and illegal behaviour by news channels or even other TV channels. Tweeters have become the watchdogs, observers, investigators and evidence providers and do a far better job than PCI or NBA would ever do in keeping TV-crimes in check. I have mentioned a few of the people on Twitter but I am sure there are many more.

The media celebs who form a huge mafia and once touted their power of peddling anything and being able to influence viewers no longer hold such complete power. The media mafia is as much under scrutiny on Twitter as they imagine they are scrutinising others. This time around, TimesNow has been allowed to get away with an apology but the damage could have been far worse. Hopefully, MSM’s tweet-crimes will stop as with their other crimes.

2010: The Year MSM Got Flushed Down The TOI(Let)

Once upon a time, a million years ago, the Times Of India carried a grand tagline ‘The Leader guards the Reader’. That was about its price-line.  With economic liberalisation, greater technology one would have thought competition in the media would escalate the interests of readers and viewers. If anything, much of the mainstream media (MSM) has actually got itself flushed down the toilet. The TOI should be considered pioneers in the art of malpractices in the media. That’s leadership for you.

In the last decade it was probably for the first time a journalist (of the Economic Times) was arrested. Sucheta Dalal then wrote:  ...Mumbai police arrested Rishi Chopra of The Economic Times along with an accomplice (a former journalist with another business daily) in an alleged extortion attempt. The duo was trapped accepting a Rs 700,000 bribe which was the second installment of a Rs 2.5 million payoff to kill a report about the shenanigans.... Worse, the pay-off itself had apparently been haggled down from an initial demand of Rs 10 million to Rs 2.5 million. Although corruption in the media is no longer news, the actual arrest of two scribes and the sums involved, marked a new low in this once honourable profession.  Paid news, Medianet were all such pioneering creations of the Times Group. One can imagine Ms.Dalal may have paid a price for her honesty. She could have been a celebrity like Barkha Dutt and probably much richer too.

Did the rest choose to remain far behind? The Nira Radia tapes only confirmed what most of us already suspected. A gross conspiracy of lie-mongering, bias, slant and paid news, and most of all,  journalists taking on the role of power-brokers. Mind you, NDTV shamelessly continues to keep Barkha Dutt on your screens when she should have been quickly assigned a backroom job. The recent fake tweets scam by CNN-IBN and Times Now also exposes the way they manipulate viewers and their feedback. Barkha Dutt and Vir Sanghvi just have to be the tip of the iceberg. The head of Hindustan Times, Shobana Bhartiya, happens to be a Congress member too.

And the MSM which so so reveres ‘freedom of speech’ is usually the first to want to muzzle it when it comes to others. The famous case of the Times Group wanting to sue Pradyuman Maheshwari for his blog ‘Mediaah’ is all too well known. Fortunately, for those still interested in his posts the contents are available at mediaha.blogspot.com. His satire, humour and gossip was simply unpalatable for TOI who indulge in it all the time. Then there is the famous Barkha Dutt Vs. Chetanya Kunte episode. NDTV tried to trample an ordinary blogger for calling Barkha’s ‘Shoddy Journalism’ on the 26/11 terror attacks. And if all this wasn’t enough the media will give out sham awards like ‘Indian of the year’ to politicians whom they are supposed to be questioning all the time.

For all the TOIs, NDTVs, CNN-IBNs, TIMES Nows etc. there are few rare exceptions that shine. Sucheta Dalal is one of them. The other low profile ones are P. Sainath and J. Gopikrishnan (of The Pioneer). Gopikrishnan was the one who first exposed the 2G Scam.  I am sure there are some more that are worthy that I may not have named here. They may not achieve the dizzy celebrity status of the media crooks, but will have earned the eternal gratitude and trust of a nation.

If the mainstream media is down the toilet, what can you trust then? The new age 365X24X7X60X60 channels are the ones you are most likely to find on the Social Network on the internet. There are Bloggers, Facebookers and Tweeters who will dish out truth for a change. Sure there will be those on the social networks too who will dish out garbage like the MSM, but you will have choices. You can be sure that truth will not be hidden.

For a change it’s the MSM that will be under surveillance and we will be the watchdogs. I, for one, am happy to hear the bells tolling for the MSM and will celebrate Christmas and New Year in great cheer and hope. And I hope you do too! Cheers!

Times Now's Twisted Tweets

A reader posted a comment on my previous post about Manmohan Singh & Caesar's wife about this incident involving Times Now. It is getting to be increasingly unbelievable that the headlines of my blog about crooks in the media lying and spreading falsehoods are being so frequently confirmed by the media.

The CNN-IBN fake tweets incident is still fresh in our minds, but here comes another one from Times Now that has twisted a tweet to flavour its political persuasions:

This has been reported in great detail by Swathi Pradeep at her blog which makes very interesting reading, and I reproduce some parts of it:

That's the tweet that Suresh sent to Times Now, and below is how Times Now reproduced it on its channel:

“Congress should not lose its focus by worrying about Modi”.

Evidently, Times Now makes a tweet criticising Congress to appear as if it's sent by a sympathetic adviser. This is shameful and Arnab Goswami goes around shooting circulars to his staff about ethics in journalism. After much protracted communication Times Now finally apologised to Suresh Nakhua.

Read Swathi Pradeep's full article at her blog here.
