The Devil's Pygmies

In an interview with PA Sangma who ran for President last year, this is what KaranThapar said to him:

Mr Sangma, even if you look at the BJP, who you said a moment ago had increased their support for you to 26-28 per cent, are using you… as a stepping stone over the bridge to Jayalalithaa and Naveen Patnaik. Mr Sangma you are a tool. You are a part of a strategy that supports their convenience. That’s why they are supporting you, not because they believe in you”.

Imagine, someone calling a presidential candidate a “tool”. Ever since that day I have nicknamed KT “The Tool”. KaranTool (KT) is the son of late General PN Thapar under whom India lost the 1962 war to China after which he resigned in disgrace. Naturally, that makes KT an expert in how the Army lives and conducts itself. So after Narendra Modi’s speech to ex-servicemen in Rewari (Haryana) on September 15 KT has a load of advice for him in “Lessons the Army can teach Mr Modi”. Where does he write it? Of course, in one of the members of the Unholy Trinity called Hindustan Times. Fair enough! We can all learn lessons from the Army. It always amazes how the soldiers’ legs are exactly in alignment in a march-past, how when they hold the rifles they’re aligned too. When they stand in rows or columns, the space between two soldiers is almost exactly the same. These are routines that come with a lot of training and practice. The soldiers help each other in getting these routines right. Okay! So when KT writes balderdash, who endorses him and seeks “action” not “abuse”? This guy Ram Guha, the “eminent distortian”! Here’s what Guha tweeted:

Alright Guha, what action do you want against some stupid analogy that KT draws because Modi addressed an ex-military crowd? Oh by the way, I wonder if Guha thinks calling a presidential candidate a “tool” is action or abuse. Let him ponder. So one writes crap the other endorses by scratching his back. Guha and KT are like two random hearts that fell in love with each other because they hate Modi. So what does KT really have to say? I’ll just pick a few samples and that will tell you the general idea of his whole article.

Regiments of the Indian Army, depending on their character, have their own mandirs, masjids, gurudwaras or churches. They have regimental maulvis, pandits, granthis, and priests. The Commanding Officer participates in all religious festivals. On Eid he will happily wear a topi. On other occasions a tikka or a pagri… An article in Daily Bhaskar.com (16/9) says: “(The) Army is the only place where you can see a maulvi conducting the proceedings of Janmashtami as Panditji was on leave.”… The truth is you can serve in the Army for years without being conscious of the religion of your colleagues. It simply doesn’t matter except in their private lives… Fortunately, Mr Modi has realised the Indian Army is the country’s most secular institution. In fact, he wants us to “take lessons in secularism from the Army”. Perhaps he should be the first.

Those are excerpts and anyone wanting to read the full crap should visit the HT page. While claiming to be “public intellectuals” (As Cacafonix fondly describes them) these guys don’t pause to look inside and think for a moment. KT probably wrote the article before the Nairobi massacre where the terrorists killed 39 and injured another 200. They were kind. They first asked all Muslims to leave. The Mail even reports: “Charles Karani, 41, an IT engineer, said: ‘I hid under a car with my daughters, and I saw the men line up maybe 40 people and ask them who was Muslim, and if they were to prove it by saying the name of the Prophet’s mother. Those who got it wrong were shot”.

Most of us have been to school. Kids wear the same uniforms, attend the same classes and learn the same lessons. People from different religions work in the same office and share the company’s mission. If a group of Indians were to travel on a ship with other nationals and it were to sink, who do you think the strong Indians will save first? Would they ask whether you are Hindu, Muslim or Christian? This is what morons like KT and Guha don’t get. That when you travel the same journey and share the same mission, religions and prejudices tend to take a back-seat. This is even more so when one is in the Army and is trained to combat enemies of the state. Imagine a Hindu and Muslim playing in the Indian cricket team. The Hindu is not going to say “I won’t take the catch off that bowler because he is Muslim” and vice-versa. Whether it’s a sinking ship, an office, a school, a cricket team or the Army, the members have a “shared cause” and they live and operate in a very controlled or mission-oriented atmosphere. That is not true for society at large.

The politicians and the political party these two guys so lovingly support and the news media have divided the nation so much that Indians as a whole DO NOT share many causes. These may be political, economic or social causes. When laws are made based on religion and caste the shared mission is eroded. When crimes of one community is overlooked, the shared mission is eroded. When SoniaG and MMS visit only Muslim victims of communal riots, the shared mission is eroded. The Army’s shared mission is fortunately not eroded so far but the politicians and media are working hard at it. The Army doesn’t have separate rules for Hindus or Muslims. It doesn’t even disclose the religion-wise composition of its members although one govt Committee did make an attempt to “sickularise” the army too. They wear the same uniform. They become one. They aren’t constantly bothered whether someone wears a skull-cap, tilak or a pagdi. The politicians and media will constantly bother and remind you of who wore a skull-cap and who didn’t and make it a national issue. That’s how stupid KT and Guha are. They have a very poor understanding of “structured organisations” with a uniform “mission”.

Society thrives in identities and prejudices; religion, colour, caste, creed, race, sexual-orientation. You won’t find KT or Guha complaining about ads for fairness creams, would you? It’s a reality only fools will deny. Narendra Modi didn’t create these. The best that Modi has done to combat this is “Sabka Vikas” and “India First”. On his stupid shows KT still sounds like “Pakistan First” and in an interview Madhu Trehan asked him why he was being seen as a “Paki agent”. KT may deny, but who created that perception? People? Or was it Modi?

The most classic line you will hear is that “Justice is blind”. Let me expand that line: “In this courtroom... justice is blind in matters of race, creed, colour, religion or sexual-orientation”. I love great lines from movies as most of us do (Video: 2.10 mins):

That’s a scene from the famous movie “Philadelphia” where Tom Hanks is sacked because he has AIDS. I wonder if KT or Guha would like to work with someone who has AIDS. I wonder if they would like to work with people not buying their vicious ideology while calling others “abusive”. The answer to the judge by Denzel Washington is simply stunning:

With all due respects your Honour, we don’t live in this courtroom, do we?

The Devil’s pygmies who pose as historians and media anchors would do well to learn that lesson. With all due respect to these Fiberals who distort and lie all the time, all of us don’t live in the Army, do we?

Here is the Karan The Tool said in 2007: Kill MODI after he won the election. He will challenge CON party if he exists.

Narendra Modi’s stunning victory will change Indian politics decisively, perhaps dramatically, possibly desperately. I have no doubt it’s a turning point. Actually, it will amount to several turning points. For the Congress and for the Left, just as much as for the BJP and the NDA. First

    related stories
    A Modi temple in Gujarat
the BJP. Nothing has galvanised the party so comprehensively since Advani’s rathyatra of 1989, imbuing it with a sense of hope, even a sense of purpose. In Modi, the BJP has discovered three elements it was anxiously searching for — leadership, issues to stand for and the first hope that it can win a majority on its own.
Of course, Advani will continue as its prime ministerial candidate, but Modi is the future. The succession is settled. No other second generation leader can match him. And as for the argument that Modi cannot take centrestage in Delhi because the NDA allies won’t accept him, the counter is that with Modi at the helm, the BJP could attempt to win on its own. The NDA may no longer be critical.

    ,,,

Only the sudden removal of Narendra Modi can stop this. For he is the agent forcing this change. And whilst he’s with us, he will do just that. I have no doubt Indian politics after Sunday the 23rd is another country. We have to live with new challenges. Some of us have to accept new leaders.

Taking the hint, IG had the constitution modified during the emergency. Maybe Thapar is similarly giving out a hint "Only the sudden removal of Narendra Modi can stop this"

  4. The hypocrisy of these worthy Gentlemen runs so deep that I doubt they will see the simplicity and validity of your argument, so brilliantly tabled.

  5. Whats new? Their arrogance and hypocrisy is all well too known and documented. It has been debated and disparaged. Yet, these folks get the bandwidth and space in this profession. They continue to twist and spin and project their skewed POVs. They survive in this profession, earn their moolah, do the damage they are tasked to do and slowly vanish away, on their own terms. It is indeed a desperate situation that these wackos and front line hitmen still get the views from the degenerate of the Indian citizenry. Such are the times.

  6. Was there really a certain' Muslim Regiment' which denied to fight with their Brothers from the other side of the border during the 1962 war? Consequently the whole regiment was terminated? ?

    1. Dear Hemant,

Dont know about 1962 war, may be someone from Services Ex or serving can answer it.

But one lesson from history. Muslim soldiers from army of Vijaynagar kingdom defected and joined hands with Muslim invader to fight against vijaynagar.

So if something similar has happened in recent history, no surprises.

  8. Let me clarify for me the hero is Arvind.. hands down. Modi is second best. Karan expects behavior of a ram from arvind/modi when they try to do some thing/rather question some thing. We ourselves are crooks to an extent, when we cheat in tax, ignore the poor on the roads and then blab-our in our rooms about knowing it all in our homes.

What i feel is that you can be a leader in india if you create a big divide between youself and the people you want to lead. Make them helpless, poor, dependent and then they would follow you.

Though i have followed R Guha to an extent, may be this time he just believed what has been repeated over and over again in the media. Whether it true or not it depends on the inidivual but certainly he should not have propagated it.

    1. You like Arvind - I am assuming its Arvind Kejriwal. Just a few lines for your reference, and even after that you like him, good luck.

When the Anna Hazaare's famous agitation in Ramlila Grounds started, it had the poster of Bharat Mata. The same was removed either after 1st day itself or two days at max due to "views" from Muslims who felt "hurt."

Prashant Bhushan, important member of AAP fought case of Batla house terrorist. Nothing wrong in fighting a case, but he did as part of ANHAD (i hope the name is right) initiative, which only panders to "illegal" arrests of muslim youths. Seems no Hindu is illegally arrested in this country. Shabnam Hashmi and Harsh Mander (remember release demand of Mander's NGO executive by Naxals) are some of the important members of ANHAD.

Finally, post Batla house encounter, your "secular" Arvind wrote a public letter vowing to fight for Muslim youth illegally detained. Back to my previous point, why no pain for Hindu youths.

Even after that you wish to support the Khangressi pawn, your choice.

      Regards

    2. Unfortunately, idiots like Arvind Kejriwal end up dividing the Hindu vote, while Muslims will stand solidly behind Congress, ignoring overt and token gestures by AAP. Arvind is a fool if he thinks that Muslims will vote for him. He will learn soon enough and if he really cares for the country, will join the NaMo bandwagon that only can deliver this country from the horrendous mess created by Congress.

    3. many give credit to Anna, Kejriwal, Bedi for the IAC movement & i think its well-deserved. But whether AAP was the right decision & it can really provide a credible alternative to Congress misrule is debatable. Intent alone does not guarantee success...our history is littered with well-intentioned people who set out to do the right thing, but lost their way, or ended up doing more harm than good. Kejriwal's USP is personal integrity & anti-corruption....he has no track record on economy, governance, foreign policy, agriculture reform, infrastructure development etc. Right now, all AAP will achieve is playing a spoiler in Delhi region..meaning it will split the anti-Congress vote, thereby helping Congress only. Congress is a past master of the divide & rule game - middle class & AAP supporters must all realize this. Even if you want to build AAP as a long term alternative...2014 election is not the time to stake your claim. Right now the priority for every right thinking Indian must be to boot out this woeful UPA regime

    4. During anna andolan, shahi imam asked muslims not to participate. Arvind immediately visited shahi imam and accepted(most probably) all his conditions

    5. Arvind Kejriwal is another Chiranjeevi (from AP) in making. Chiranjeevi ridiculed CONgress in AP election and was successful to divide the vote of other parties with few wins for "Prajarajyam Party" and helped CONgress to remain in power in AP. After the real face-off began - Chiranjeevi merged Prajarajyam in CONgress and now enjoying the ministry from CONgress party in AP.

So message is clear - Dont let Arvind Kejriwal play a role of Chiranjeevi.
Best of luck to AAP supporters...

  12. Hi Ravinar ,
Two days back I have gt this mail from one of my closest friend.. and I am worried now !!!!!
    "Hello pranjal,
Sumtime ago I read an article online stating that Sonia Gandhi went overseas not due to ill health but to sign a contract with a US software company for messing up with the coding of Indian EVM machines.
Today, I read in the newspaper that we will have a new set of EVMs for the Lok Sabha elections in 2014.
You & I both know that cheap congress will go to any extent to win the elections...what if the rumours are true? What can we or the BJP do about it?
This issue has been bugging me for quite some time now... thought of discussing with you.."

    1. @Pranjlal

The one thing you CAN do is... Do not rely on bogus news stories which neither have any evidence nor any reliable logic. It is easy to fall prey to loose canons and rumours. Before you put such things in the public domain please check for at least some reliability.

    2. Hi Ravinar,

As usual your pen is mightier than 1000 swords. But to reply the pranjal's view, i have came across the similar stuff few days back. Now after the reading that news that Mr.S.Swamy won the case against the EVM and from now on we will have a print receipt of to whom we vote and we have to put this print receipt into the separate ballet box. And when they will finish counting of our votes they will have to make sure that EVM and ballet box results should match. I have also read that because of this new practice Congress has been wiped out in some local election in Assam around there somewhere.

I am sure, you also have had this piece of information, so could you please shed some light on this or write upon this subject in your future articles if it is possible for you at all.

I just love to read and spread awareness about your articles to people around me. Keep doing the good work and GOD bless you.

  19. Unfortunately, we seem to live in a time when people utterly devoid of any moral character are awarded with a public face and given carte blanche to spread their insidious bullshit without compunction. They are numerous. Moreover, they either don't seem to have the basic intelligence to try and hide it very well, or worse still maybe they don't feel they even need to. The regularity and brazenness of their dishonesty and shameless hypocrisy is extremely hard to endure for those us for whom basic truthfulness is a daily norm and a marker for basic human civility. In many ways we have become desensitised to it.

One thing is for sure, if there's any justice in the world whatsoever, dung-stained cockroaches like Thapar and Guha should experience "sudden removal", preferably of the painful kind.
