Send In The Clowns

"The idea had been growing in my brain for some time: TRUE force. All the queen's men cannot put it back together again”. That little quote from a famous movie is the rephrase of the simple lines from a nursery rhyme. A Prime Minister who has been humiliated over and over again by others yesterday had to face the ultimate insult from his own party member. Two terms wasted in overlooking so many scams and so much corruption had to end in dishonour. The mindless ordinance attempting to overturn the SC ruling on convicted legislators was the last straw for the public. There were wild guesses that even the President would send it back for reconsideration. We can forget all that now. A long time ago I wrote the post “The tears of a clown prince”; that post was about Rahul Gandhi’s silly utterances on corruption and black money. In a burst of stupidity the same RahulG not only re-established his clownish tendencies, he also reduced the PM, the Cabinet and the entire media to nothing but a bunch of clowns.

In the afternoon of September 27, 2013 RahulG walked into the Press Club where the Congress spokie was defending the Ordinance. RG was kind enough to give a warning to Ajay Maken that he was “arriving”. He first called Maken and then at the dais made Maken look absolutely dumbfounded with what he uttered. I quote the priceless gems from RG:
I am not going to get into a long drawn press conference. I will make some of my opinions heard and then I'll go back to work. I called up Makenji and he said he was meeting the press, speaking about the ordinance. He gave me the political line that everyone will give you. My personal opinion about the ordinance on lawmakers is that it is complete nonsense; it should be torn and thrown away. Everyone does this and there is a time to stop this nonsense - and I really feel this is time political parties stop making such compromises. When we make small compromises we compromise everything. If we actually want to stop corruption then we cannot make these compromises. I am not interested in what the Opposition is saying; I am only interested in what our government is doing. What our government has done as far as this ordinance is concerned is wrong”.

Complete nonsense? The guy does love tearing things, doesn’t he? He tore that SP manifesto last year. He watched the Lokpal Bill of his party being torn in clever drama. Now he wants to tear the Ordinance. The tears of a …. Oh never mind!

And all this while the PM is away in the US! Not knowing how to respond MMS just said he was aware of RG’s statement and that RG had written to him about his opinions too. Really? So even after receiving a letter from RG the PM went ahead with the ordinance? That’s quite unbelievable. As that bomb exploded our media clowns didn’t know what to do. All these years of sucking up to MMS and RG had come undone in one single stroke. They didn’t know what to do. Even RG’s “evoluter” Barkha Dutt dropped everything else early morning in Washington DC and stuck to politics back home. The free junket wasted! Here are initial responses from some of the media clowns:

Now RG will steer the party? Well Barkha, that depends if you consider he has completely evolved or if he’s work-in-progress. The Category5Moron gleefully jumps to point at some minister in the Gujarat govt under Modi. Well, to Numero Unee it doesn’t occur that the two people most affected by RG “tearing” the Ordinance are Rasheed Masood of Congress, and, of course, Lalu ‘fodder’ Prasad. The entire Cabinet which approved the Ordinance were running around like headless chickens trying to figure out to say. The man who has a “happy-tongue” and blabbers about a lot of things also explained how he was wise not to comment on the Ordinance. Of course, he doesn’t tell us why he didn’t object earlier as part of the Cabinet. Meet Shashi Tharoor, the flip-flop man again:

The ministers and other members, sycophants that they are, crawled behind RG and kept saying PM wasn’t “snubbed” by his stupid outburst. All through last evening TimesNow, NDTV, CNN-IBN and other channels somehow tried to pin the Ordinance tragedy on BJP by twisting the chaos into some imaginary role of BJP supporting it by seeking the parliamentary route. Nonsense! Only yesterday the BJP leaders met the President to reject the Ordinance. The Congress members and spokies, even side-kicks like Sanjay Jha, were totally caught with pants and skirts down. The ministers tried to hide in the nearest hole possible. The last few days and even till RG’s presser all the Congis and some crooks in the media were defending the Ordinance. RG’s order was clear: “send in the clowns”. And I quite like the way this theme expresses it (video 2.49 mins):

The Congis and media make quite a pair. One in mid-air one on the ground. One who keeps tearing around, one who can’t move… Where are the clowns? Making an entrance at a presser with his usual flair. Sure of his lines. Don’t you love farce? The clowns were right there at the press club. Isn’t it rich? Isn’t it queer? Losing the timing this late, in their careers? Where are the clowns? Well, maybe next year!

What the media doesn’t tell you is the awful truth that for the last few months Narendra Modi has been running away with the political agenda with his block-buster rallies. In contrast, the Congress heir RahulG has had nothing to show but usual blabber about poverty being lack of self-confidence or a state of mind. RG’s rallies have drawn poor responses. The Congress is even scared to allow media to live-cast his speeches. He is that blooper-prone and his nonsensical utterances a delight for cartoonists and the butt of jokes. Terrorism in J&K even as PM goes abroad and wants to hold talks with Pak PM. The SC made mincemeat of the bogus Aadhar card scheme. And public opinion against the Ordinance protecting convicted legislators was abundantly evident. A caller from Hyderabad on Times Now, on September 26, spanked Sanjay Jha severely and the latter still kept defending the Ordinance, as did other Ministers and spokies. They have to realise they’ve been made to look like idiots.

But here’s the dangerous part. Even if all the sycophants line up behind RahulG and MMS is made a scapegoat and many are now demanding the resignation of the PM they miss something. Imagine, when Modi was nominated PM candidate the same clowns were asking if it wasn’t a snub to a senior statesman like LK Advani. Now the same clowns are suggesting RG’s silly outburst is not a snub to MMS. Sanjay Baru, former media advisor to PM, was harsh enough to immediately seek his resignation and slammed RG for not following the Indian culture of respecting elders and insubordination. Funny, isn't that? If your junior commits insubordination you sack him or you yourself resign? Where do Baru and Rajdeep get their wisdom? The truth they won’t acknowledge is that RahulG doesn’t respect anyone or anything. He thinks people are fools and he can go around making silly statements and be a hero. RG has a wrong set of advisors. The other awful truth is nobody has any sympathy for MMS either. He has lost the halo of “honesty” and people see him as a man who condoned scams and corruption right through the last 9 years. Nobody will weep for him over his political death. MMS may even go down as the worst PM India ever had.

And the real danger is that anyone who can barge into a presser when he normally never speaks to media and makes tall claims and makes a damaging outburst against his own party member who is PM is seriously psychologically damaged. Neither RG’s language nor his cruel dismissal of his PM and entire cabinet in public reflect any diplomatic skills. Such a man is really unfit for any senior position in any govt. Far from having reacted to public sentiment or trying to prove he is a leader or outspoken, RG only gave proof he is a bigger clown than we so far imagined. He dunked the Congress into a deeper hole than they already were. This is a man heavily drunk with power without the slightest bit of responsibility. With a man like this you can never know what he might utter anywhere, including on economic issues or matters of foreign affairs. Imagine the man suddenly having a fit at the UN or a G-20 summit. The media who clowned around all along and many still believe RG’s act was a brave one or heroic need to have their head examined. These are the clowns they sent in.

  1. A small note:

"Send in the Clowns" is a song written by Stephen Sondheim for the 1973 musical A Little Night Music.. It is a ballad from Act II in which the character Desirée reflects on the ironies and disappointments of her life. Among other things, she looks back on an affair years earlier with a lawyer (Fredrik)... Meeting him after so long, she finds that he is now in an unconsummated marriage with a much younger woman. Desirée proposes marriage to rescue him from this situation, but he declines, citing his dedication to his bride. Reacting to his rejection, Desirée sings this song. The song is later reprised when after Fredrik's young wife runs away with his son, and Fredrik is finally free to accept Desirée's offer.

  3. Yesterday one saw two types of U turns. The traditionally shameless KhanChris chamchas could do the turnaround in a black & white mode. The likes of Shashi Tharoor,Makan,Sanjay Jha,Shukla,Jayanthi etc fall in this category. While the KhanChris chamchas in the Media made it seam lessly from black to grey to white. The likes of Kumar Ketkar,Aarthi Jerath,Vinod Mehta,Rashid Kidwai etc.were the flag bearers on this coterie.

  4. Another brilliant analysis. Good on you Ravi to expose the true nature of Clown Prince and his tribe. The whole UPA and Commies are in reactive mode and in fact shocked by response NaMo is getting from Mango people. You are absolutely right that NaMo is setting the agenda. Hope he keeps these bastards and bitches on the rope.

As for Poodle, we all know that harder a dog is scolded or kicked more obedient it becomes. Well that is our Poodlejee. He will never resign. Do not we all love fair skin? White skin is still better and sitting in lap of white skin madam and feeling the warmth is too good for our Poodle.

  5. Barkha is a blot on journalism. She is a dynasty sycophant under the veil of journalism. Any sane, honest journalist would have called a spade a spade (in this case RG as physiologically damaged).

  10. Dear Ravinar. Rahul comes across as a dangerous , loose cannon. A spoilt rich brat. A man without the smallest iota of common sense. An immature and illadvised small time politician. His father was a shade better , which is saying a lot. God save us if he were to become PM!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Moreover I think Barqua Dutt is in US with PM delegation and tweets Rahul is saying he's ready to steer the party!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Some in the media are desperately seeking to read a 'grand design' in Rahul's outburst. What message is he sending to his party? To MMS? To his mother?
Seriously guys, do you really really believe that this childishly choreographed drama was anything other than a pathetic effort to 'capture the moral ground' and project the image of being a 'decisive leader'?
At the heart of this drama is the assumption that we are all imbeciles who will figure out nothing.
It is also saddening to see how apparently intelligent (if their being articulate is any yardstick for intelligence) like Tharoor being such supplicants. Can anyone say that this intemperate outburst aimed at a decision made by the cabinet under Prime Minister of the country while he is abroad was anything but most thoughtless? Or that if this is a sign of Congress' 'robust inner-party democracy', the recent difference in BJP over their Prime Ministerial candidate could not have been the terminal schism that spokespersons of Congress made it out to be.

  13. Which is sillier, RG's silly outbursts or the 'respected' journalist's question if he will steer the party now?

  17. In yesterday's Timesnow Newshour, Kumar Ketkar was so aggressively defending the Congress and he sounded more absurd that any Congress spokesperson I've ever heard. Of all things, he managed to bring in Vajpayee, Advani and Modi in this debate by some convulted stretch of logic. Even Arnab was amused with the kind of behaviour of Kumar Ketkar!

With the Congress fighting with its back to the wall, the unofficial Congress spokespersons like Kumar Ketkar are brazening it out by following the policy of Offence being the best form of Defence!

  19. Yesterday's events at the Press Club were clearly stage managed, it was not an impromptu act. A man who keeps the press a mile away, never interacts with the media suddenly walks into the press club when Maken was speaking is no coincidence. And he walked in a few minutes after Maken received a call means he was already on the way and it was not a spur of the moment act. The lines were probably rehearsed well before and i believe his advisers would have told him to go and speak in a manner the today's youth like to hear, bold, brash, aggresive and all that and as typical of him and his mother he refused to take questions from the media. If Rahul had serious reservations on this ordinance and he was honest and sincere in his efforts he would have come out in public much before and he had many opportunities to say his bit, he could have even said this in the rally he addressed on Thursday but he didn't say anything. Pallavi Ghosh on IBN was clearly saying that the President had contacted the CON party and had expressed serious reservations about the ordinance and now it had become imperative for the party to withdraw it without getting any egg on its face. So the "Phata poster nikala Rahul" happened and as the movie had flopped this Rahul's drama will also fail. If any of us believe this was a well intention-ed intervention by Rahul then their can't be worse morons than us.

  20. With his tail firmly between his legs Maken spoke sheepishly supporting RG after the public lashing to the Union Cabinet (largely MMS, PC and Kapil). Feel sorry for him that he had to defend and face ridicule from the public just like Sanjay Jha faced the ire from the man from Hyderabad. But these are hardened politicians and have a very very thick skin and nothing will affect them save a raised eyebrow from the first family. The TV anchors and many journalists are an apology for being equitable and fair reporting and pursue their own agenda (as dictated and directed by the party they support and most of them are from the ruling dispensation. Its time to put them out of their misery and humiliation and vote them out. They will get a much needed rest and time to recover. The nearly ten years of UPA have been a disaster of the first order - with unabated inflation and corruption allegations and ham handed governance,if any.

  21. Another interesting factoid is that late last night, Barkha Dutt from Washington DC claimed to have an "Exclusive" on the contents of an email that Pappu sent to Poodle Singh. She revealed excerpts from this email. How did Barkha Dutt get hold of this information? Obviously, the contents of an email sent to the Prime Minister of the country were leaked to the press (specifically, Barkha Dutt) within minutes!

How do these seasoned journalists expect us to believe that all this is not an orchestrated drama? First, Pappu puts up an act without perhaps understanding the repercussions on the institution of Prime Minister, in a bid to become a hero. Once TV channels and BJP latched on to "insult to Manmohan", late in the night Barkha Dutt embarks on a damage-control exercise of revealing contents of an email in which "Rahul expresses immense respect for Manmohan".

Why does NDTV present itself as an objective media? They are masters at hypocrisy and double-speak, even worse than the worst of politicians in this country!

Just to stick to power all these ministers are silent.

Only when the public outcry reached a crescendo did the BJP realise their double speak and hypocrisy was getting exposed a la Janlokpal Bill drama that Sushmaji sent that first tweet. 32. Sorry for an out-of-topic comment here.....

What kind of samskaar is it that you don't acknowledge some one touching your feet. I am referring to Bhopal rally few days back.. One's soul must be infinitely hate-filled to do that. This is the most disgusting thing you can get to see. It might not have hurt Modi at all but I am sure many people are hurt. I am gutted. Used to have a good impression of LKA. I hope he doesn't share stage with NaMo in any future rallies. It is better that way. It is more hurtful/embarrassing to see some one humiliate another elderly (NaMo) person . And this LKA did at least 2/3 times before to NaMo. So where is this "elderly-ness" of LKA showing? He is not really large hearted...And I dislike to see him around.

As far as yesterday's episode of RG is considered. I give him full marks for the stand he took (We need all politicians and voters take that stance). May be he is too late in his reaction etc. However I am NOT endorsing/supporting RG as a leader here. I am in agreement with all the comments of Ravinar in this article and other articles on RG..

Even if some people think RG is a great leader (which is not the case any way) I want Indians to look for some one else (not born in the dynasty...not even the fly from RG's house hold) to lead the country. Let us get out of this "gANDHI RAJ". And MSM has been the first set of people who floated this idea that RG could be the savior of the country and CON sycophants immediately latched on to this "great" idea of MSM and since then they have lost the ability to think rationally, think of good for the people and the country.

  33. MMS was utilised as a Shikandi for nine years and this congress looted nations wealth to the hilt. Now this very congress VP literally 'spits' on this eladerly PM instead of resorting to a more decent way of venting out his opinion. This selfish desire of grand standing by humiliating the elderly PM, who is more like a father figure at least for the arrogant congress has been seen in history only in the case of Aurangazeb's treatment of his father Shahjehan. RG is an idiot unlike Aurangazeb.. RG didn't behave properly with ex CM of Kerala V.S Aachudanand ( Amul baby fame) and the elderly justice Krisna Iyer. It seems RG has the Sadistic streak of Muggers in US etc who harass the elderly in the streets/ tubes etc and lonely places and derive immense pleasure.

It was well planned and managed press conference, for a college drop out to walk in impromptu and issue statements, which every Indian citizen has been echoing it for 60 years now, which media has NOT been publishing nor talking.

It is sad that even a true statement or true incidence is twisted and presented in a way which would portray Khangress as the best party and has done its best..... unfortunately the citizens of India now seen through the khangress games and hope they are all waiting for the elections to be declared soon......... to see and rejoice the day of rejecting the Khangress party.

  37. The interesting things about the recent communal riots in Muzzafarnagar is that all riot victims (read only muslims) would get pension + govt jobs. Rest NREGA & Food security pet schemes of Khangress govt ensure that all Muslims in India would get everything by doing nothing.

There would be new quota for jobs - those effected by riots 5% reservation. Pension for all members who are affected by riots. Ofcourse, there is NO need to show any proof i.e. DNA samples of the person declared dead during the riots and its immediate relatives. Just show Aadhar card that you are a muslim and address proof of muzzafarnagar.

The fact being so, the outburst of RaulG was due to overdoze of cocoine, the clowns arraigning the BJP is the height of absurdity. Then what do they answer for their comments over Advani Modi impasse a month back? The scamgress do anticipate what they drive home are vedas and indisputable. Bloody party in order to bail out Lalu they made all dramas and when the public outcry went skyrocketing and more to the point when President expressed his reservation, the action was set in motion. But shame on PC, Sibal and Kalmadi

  54. RahulG cannot think, speak, read or write or perhaps even eat or brush extempore. He needs a guide, mentor, assistant or a boss to do his part. So I don't believe that Rahul's walk-in to a press conference addressed by one of his employees is not guided. He was without an iota of doubt hand-held and his utterances were tailored and mugged up 100 times behind doors before being spit in front of the journalists. Regarding the MSM jokers, the less said the better.

  56. What if same words can be spoken by any ordinary congress member?
Rahul is from Gandhi Pariwar (Prince of India's King Family) means he is King and Manmohan Singh (Is not Singh is King).

  58. I really like what you wrote here.... Here's what I think... This was all pre-planned by some of the congress leadership to propel RahulG as the PM candidate, and leave MMS (who, unlike the former, is at least is an educated man) looking like a fool. Here's my take, with reasons- http://chiccityfashionista.blogspot.in/2013/10/who-else-thinks-that-entire-rahul.html
