Is CNN-IBN's FTN The Most Enduring Stupidity on TV?

Guy on the street says “over the years we celebrate it more for the sake of celebration than for any religious connotation”. He’s sort of explaining why Diwali is being celebrated. If you have an ignoramus anchoring a TV show you are bound to have a poor beat reporter (titled Smriti Advani) asking someone silly scripted questions. It’s a natural rule. Hinduism has been open to question and criticism down the ages. Hindu icons have also appeared in movie comedies and have been the subject of humour and jokes. But it takes an extreme moron like Sagarika Ghose to ask “Is the legend of Ram the most enduring in India, was Ram a bad husband”? (November 13). The journalistic-bimbo thought that would be a good question to ask on Diwali night on her show ‘FTN’ on CNN-IBN. I must, of course, mention that CNN-IBN and its editors have been traditional Hindu-haters. They fail to put up that disclaimer on their screen when they do shows like this. It didn’t occur to the Cacofonix that she’s asking the question after almost 6000 years of the Ram legend.  

In just the previous post (The holes in the mint) I talked about another extreme moron called Priya Ramani of Mint who has consistently abused Ram for no rhyme or reason. You know, I wouldn’t consider criticising, poking gentle fun, even ridiculing a bad thing but abuse and hatred for Ram or Hinduism seems to come naturally to these ladies. Sometime back the SocialGenius wondered if Ram was a “Divine encroacher”, so you know where she comes from. She also claimed she came from a devout Hindu family because her unkill joined the Ramakrishna Mission. I know of many of many idiots who say “geeze” in their conversations without knowing what that even means. It’s sort of hip. I am willing to bet these ladies say geeze quite often.

After the older guy, the beat-woman picks up a younger guy and asks him if Ramayana is relevant and she herself concludes “Ramayana is not so relevant for the younger generation”. What the younger guy did say was that Dusherra is like Diwali, when Ram destroys evil Raavan and Diwali is more of a family celebration. I know how the street specialists are picked by TV channels and so do most people watching the shows. And what triggered the question and discussions? Oh that Ram Jethmalani (RJ) said something like “Ram was a bad husband” for the way he treated Sita. Haha! That comes from a guy with two wives at the same time. Never mind. Does the comment of a mercurial lawyer, frequently hated by CNN-IBN for his defence of various characters, warrant a full-fledged discussion? No! But since it was something negative about Ram it’s like lighting the fuse for a bomb for the journalistic-bimbo.

Then the bimbo wonders if people know what Diwali is about or if they remember Ramayana or Ram’s story. No matter which faith you belong to in India it is unlikely that kids have never heard of Ramayana or Mahabharata. Being two epics it’s not possible for everyone to remember the epics from start to finish. Most remember the essence of the stories and probably many incidents from each. These epics have not just been widely discussed, told and retold in India but across many parts in the world. Ram’s life has been far more public and far more discussed than say a Gandhi or Nehru. So when Sagarika suggests Ramayan doesn’t resonate with the younger lot she is probably speaking from her own life experience. Maybe her parents didn’t tell her those stories or maybe her kids never heard those stories. Your guess is as good as mine.

So the discussion is all over a statement of RJ. Alright! This moron Sagarika is the same one who once interviewed RJ over his defence of Manu Sharma, the killer of Jessica Lal. Her absolute ignorance of law and legal procedures were total exposed by RJ. The bimbo believes if the media and public opinion holds a person guilty then no lawyer should defend that person. Trust me, there’s a moron like this born every minute in our media. The thrashing she got at the hands of RJ was far more severe than the off the cuff remark by RJ on Ram. He called her rant all “bullshit”. He called her a “chit of a girl” trying to advise him. Of course, she honestly carried a show on FTN with the question “Is Sagarika a chit of a girl & a load of bullshit”? You remember seeing that, don’t you? I do, and I remember 99.93% voters saying “YES”! The bimbo asks a lawyer if he is “defending the indefensible”. Forget the Ramayan, no school, no parents, no spouse, no unkill ever taught this extreme moron that every accused has not only the right to defence but a lawyer refusing to defend his client may be guilty of misconduct under the bar rules. If she can decide the case of Manu Sharma in her filthy studios you can imagine what trial Ram would go through on CNN-IBN in absentia. (See the RJ interview on Youtube)

RJ has often said quite a few things about others too. His most recent pearls of wisdom have frequently been on the one Great White Hope of our media morons; the one and only Rahul Gandhi. Yeah! He’s the same guy that CNN-IBN awarded “Indian of the year” in 2009. Even Ram doesn’t have such an award from that channel. So what did RJ have to say about RahulG? Let’s do a count:

* RahulG has black money stashed abroad (Here).

* RahulG is good for nothing! He is useless! (Here).

* There isn’t even a quotable quote from RahulG.

* RahulG is illiterate.

It’s unlikely RJ’s epithets for RahulG is going to end there. Now, how many times have you seen CNN-IBN or Sagarika Ghose have a discussion or debate on these statements of RJ? Ummm.. I counted and it is ‘Zero’. It’s only when the old man had something negative to say about Ram that CNN-IBN has massive orgasms. You see Ram pays for the TV channels through serials which news channels can’t carry. But RahulG’s Congress is a paymaster for CNN-IBN all the time. So I doubt you’ll see a discussion titled “Is RahulG the enduring fool of Indian politics”? Quite unlikely!

What these “secular and fiberal” experts and Hindu-haters consistently demonstrate is their total lack of understanding of Hindu culture itself. Unlike Muslims or Christians the Hindus aren’t bound together by religion. The greatest Hindu scholar of recent history, Swami Vivekananda, told his American audience that in the West a ‘woman’ means the wife or girlfriend; to Hindus, a woman means mother. He also explained that Hindus aren’t bound as a community by religion but rather by social customs and traditions. Holi (which for Priya Ramani is a festival of “molestation”) is a festival of harvest and thanksgiving celebrations. So too is Pongal. A deeper look will tell everyone that kite-flying on Uttarayan or Makara Sankaranti has nothing to do with religion. And the shocker, even a Hindu wedding doesn’t have much to do with religion. New Year among Hindus varies with regions. Not much of it has anything to do with religion. Diwali too, has precious little to do with religion. It’s a celebration of return of the rightful king to his throne, a celebration of the victory of good over evil, the lights symbolise new beginnings, knowledge and celebration too. The only time these media celebs find the need for light is when they support a candle-march for some protest.

Hindus worship and adore light. Ask any of the media morons what darkness is, I’m sure the best answer is you will get is “absence of light”. That isn’t really an answer is it? That’s like saying hate is absence of love. Hate is the outcome of lifelong prejudice born out of value systems built by families among their children. The ones who discuss Ram or Hindus with so much hate need to wonder what values they were instilled with. Their hate comes from prejudices built over years. It’s not easy to define darkness but you can tell darkness when you see it. You can tell the prejudices of our TV hosts when you see them.

Forget Ram and Diwali for the moment. The right question for people would be “Is CNN-IBN’s FTN the most enduring stupidity on TV”? That’s a poll they won’t conduct but we will. So do cast your vote in this poll on the top right margin of this page. Happy new year! 

The Holes In The Mint

At the height of Beatlemania in March 1966 John Lennon was quoted as saying the Beatles were “more popular than Jesus”. This was enough to cause a world-wide Christian outrage. Beatles’ concerts were threatened, their records burned in southern US, Mexico, South Africa, Spain. Later, Lennon did express regret to pacify the Christians. Lennon had only responded to a question on the decline of Christianity which was being widely discussed at that time. His actual statement was: “Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue about that; I'm right and I'll be proved right. We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first—rock 'n' roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me”. Factually, Lennon was right; Beatles were popular in every corner of the world (beyond Christians) and had more influence on kids and youth. The Pope even chose to forgive Lennon years after he was killed as if anybody gave a damn. Frankly, the Vatican has more to apologise for than Lennon, as later events have shown. Lennon didn’t really ‘abuse’ Jesus in any way for so much outrage. Can you imagine Hindus outraging like that? Lennon did have the choicest words to frequently describe the “establishment cronies” and even returned the MBE awarded by the Queen in protest of some war. 

I have lost count of the number of times I’ve said there are two Rajdeep Sardesais. One is the guy on TV and the other is off it. On TV is the man driven by compulsions of business and the ‘agenda’. Off TV the man is often thoughtful in his writings and quite introspective when he tweets. So on November 10 when he tweeted seeking to understand how to make up with Twitterati it was amazing to see someone seeking vicarious pleasure in hunting down certain people and informing their workplace. Haha! I’m surprised why this bitchy woman didn’t go a step further and seek to write a complaint to moms and dads of some Tweeple. I honestly didn’t know much about Priya Ramani before but I learn that she runs something called Mint-Lounge, a section of Mint, a paper that Hindustan Trolls tries to sell. Now what exactly is Mint Lounge? It’s one of those extras for women with money and nothing to do. It shows them the philosophical way of ‘baking a Pizza’ at home or how SRK doesn’t want to be a lover-boy, art of the grotesque and so on.

What does strike me is not that Ramani wants to hunt down these “persnarltees”. She figured in an earlier post of mine (From my inbox to Fiberals) on her mindless rant against NitiCentral and the 499 crores of Rajesh Jain. In that post I had shared how some journalists feel about their work. It makes me wonder how the people working around Ramani really feel. Forget the persnarltees on Twitter or SM, those around Ramani may be on constant surveillance for every word and sentence they utter everywhere. Ramani probably spies on all her co-workers and employees of Lounge to make sure they’re behaving. I wonder if she reports every silly tweet of her co-workers to their parents or their spouses.  Who knows, she might even add a note on how to spank such people. I wonder if online behaviour is a factor for salary hikes or cuts at Lounge or Mint itself. Come to think of it they might even have an annexure to the appraisal form where an employee's good and bad behaviour instances are listed. Like, you know, number of accolades for Ramani might get +10 each, and number of times the employee calls her a bitch gets a -20. Damn! This woman could truly revolutionise behaviour assessment in media outlets.

We’ll get back to Ramani’s extraordinary brilliance but in the meantime I would like you to find out what Balvenie is. I’ve often said that certain TV channels and magazines are meant only for those with a ‘Mini-bar’ at home. You can pronounce Balvenie as ‘Bal-when-ee’ or ‘Bal-ween-ee’. Both are acceptable. See? I’m learning, why don’t you start too?

More Mint! On November 8 Madhu Trehan was at a debate at the World Economic Forum hosted on NDTV. She was battling ‘Nothing’! I mean she was battling Kapil Sibal over Internet freedom, hooliganism and stuff like that. Doing a running commentary, Mint put out these two tweets attributing statements to Madhu. Turns out both statements were absolute LIES. It sounds like the Mint editor, Suku, was playing Sudoku. So he quietly deletes the tweets and privately apologises to Madhu. Mint value system: Tar in public and apologise in private. Most companies have that in reverse, don’t they? The tweets were to public at large and there was no apology to readers for misleading them. Many tweeple were not very kind to Madhu after reading the Livemint tweets. Worse, Mint stupidly deletes those tweets hoping the crime will disappear. I guess they are yet to learn that not even Kapil Sibal can wipe the footprints off the internet.

Then there are other writers at Mint. There is one Aakar Patel who writes mostly about nothing but Narendra Modi. This one is not sure whether he’s in love with Modi or not. Er. somewhat like those “he loves me, he loves me not” games with clover leaves. Modi has been called a lot of names but it’s only Aakar Patel who finds him a “sex symbol”. Some call it an obsession and some call it infatuation with Modi. One hopes AakTel will someday make a confession. Then there’s Samar Halarnkar (actually with Hindustan Trolls) and he is accused of plagiarising the works of Frances Moore Lappé in his articles on fighting hunger and food shortages. Ah, I think that had something to do with Brazil. I guess guy doesn’t know even Wiki has an entry on him to that effect. It’s a long story that will take up too much space. What’s the short story? Samar is also reportedly the husband of Priya Ramani. Yeah, the one that wants to hunt down people. In all the posts so far I’ve never found the need to use any expletives. I think I can be bad enough without the use of those. I once used the ‘f’ word but that was an actual tweet of Rajdeep I quoted. This Ramani takes it further than hatred can possibly take anyone. She calls Lord Ram a loser. Her friend calls him a “C***” and typically, like the American woman she is, she corrects him: It’s “D***”. Ramani is not alone. She has a sister-in-arms in Sagarika Ghose who frequently abuses Ram and Hinduism.

Where does such hatred and loathing of a Hindu icon come from? That too with no particular provocation! Ah, for that we’ll have to go back two years to an article Ramani wrote in the same Mint. That was called: “I may not be an Indian” (June 2010). Yeah.. you leave us in no doubt about that. She hates being Indian, she hates Ram for being a loser; in short she hates everything about herself. Technically, for all her stupid utterances Ramani could well be charged with sections 294, 295 and 295A for deliberately insulting religious sentiments under the Indian Penal Code. A glimpse of her self-hate can be seen in the image from her article. She hates Diwali, she thinks Holi is a time for ‘molestation’. 

I believe it would be easier to make a list of things she doesn’t hate about India or Indians. That would probably equal to ‘Sibal’. And then, this stupid moron claims she is a victim of abuse on Twitter. Who in his right mind would want to abuse her when she abuses herself so much? She is probably one of those failed journalists or writers who couldn’t make it to the top like Chetan Bhagat. She probably wonders why she had to be born Indian. I have lived abroad for a short while and have seen western culture too. I love many of their good practices but don’t hate them for what could be called bad practices. We are here because India isn’t perfect. Some people take that imperfection as a chance to correct our faults. Some people simply choose to hate the country and her people. Ramani leaves us in no doubt which category she belongs to. But hey, sure as hell, she can probably tell you how to bake a cake with her magazine. And you can guess her favourite drink: Balvenie! The single-malt Scotch whiskey which probably inspires her writings and tweets!

There are many interpretations to Lord Ram’s response to the utterances of a washer-man. That is not even important here. Ram could have slashed the man’s head, imprisoned him, maybe he put his people above family. It can go on and on. What do you know, if Ram were with us today all he would have to do is send an email to Kapil Sibal and the washer-man would be in prison under 66A in a flash. But it would most certainly take an extreme moron to call him a loser or a D*** or C***.

Some wonder what would happen if Ramani were to make similar statements about Islam or Islamic icons. Not just her, the entire bunch of media morons wouldn’t dare. I’ve no doubt the swords would be out, her family would be dead and her house burned to the ground. But that’s hardly the issue here. Even Christians outraged over Lennon’s largely innocuous remark. My answer to this particular moron who passes as Priya Ramani is this: You didn’t become who you are all by yourself. The self-hate and loathing didn’t come to you all by yourself. No one said it better than John Adams: “Our individuality we so, so revere is not entirely our own… We ARE, who we WERE”. So I’m in no doubt those with such extreme hatred didn’t get it all by themselves. They are, who they were. Their forefathers, ancestors, friends, family and co-workers probably invested in them with such hatred. Hindus will no doubt be angered but they’re definitely not going to draw swords.

Most of us “Are who we Were”. Most Hindus are brought up with some spiritual principles and tolerance. That is the foundation of this country. I have travelled to the smallest corners of India. In many rural towns life is terrible. In a bus for 22 they usually pack a 100 and even add another 50 sacks of vegetables and grains. While I did find it alarming and discomforting, I don’t regret living the lives of those people and with them for a while. They didn’t choose that life and live in hope things will change for their children. The uncouth, uncivilised aren’t the ones who only spit or litter. The Ramanis can sip their Balvenie and keep hating Ram and India. John Lennon said to an audience once: “Will the people in the cheaper seats clap your hands? All the rest of you, if you'll just rattle your jewellery”. So why do I have write about these idiots at Mint? That’s a good question. Let me again quote the last verse from a song Lennon-McCartney wrote many years ago (A day in the life – One can find it easily on Youtube):

Well, the song was banned for radio play because the British establishment thought the phrase “turn you on” alluded to drugs. But they totally missed something else. It is known that the 4000 holes refer to the potholes in Blackburn’s streets with relevance to a council election. But what’s the reference to those holes filling the Royal Albert Hall? There are many interpretations and one of them is of decaying flesh and another is assholes in the system. That’s the reason I had to count all the morons at Mint. Now we know how many holes there are in the Mint.   

From My Inbox To Fib-erals

Here’s classic prose: “We Jesuit-educated, English newspaper-reading citizens who are “hostage to the Delhi-based bogus Left-liberal commentariat”. Also, apparently, the “drum-beaters of the Establishment”. This description of us is from the mission statement of the just-launched Niti Central, a news website promoted by Friends of the BJP…  and funded by Rajesh Jain, one of the country’s most well-known Internet entrepreneurs (he sold his company for Rs. 499 crore in 1999 to Ramalinga Raju who was arrested for fraud a decade later)”. Ahem! That is someone who goes by the name of Priya Ramani, writes columns for Livemint (“We the endangered people” September 8). The article is not very different from how Prakash Karat defends political murders by CPM goons. Rajesh Jain who funds NitiCentral also sold something to Ramalinga Raju who was arrested for fraud and therefore NitiCentral is born out of blood-stained money I suppose. Clever, very clever, isn’t it?

I get some mails every day. Most of these have compliments, suggestions, links to articles or incidents worth covering on this blog. I will share some of these mails and also some tweets from those in the media as we go along. Here’s a mail I received from a self-confessed “elite”, also a fan of this blog, who mentions the Delhi circle of ‘crème-de-la-crème’ doesn’t accept my articles too well for some reasons. (No reference to Ramani). Frankly, I don’t expect them to, no matter what. 

The mail further states that my being from Gujarat makes the posts suspect for them. (Er.. tainted like RajeshJain-funded?) Ah well, given their persuasions it would snow in Gujarat in May if the same posts were to be written from Kumbakonam I suppose. Still, the writer of the mail seemed to argue my case with friends. My reply was:  What is written is more important than who writes it. And my added advice to this friend was not to argue for me: “It’s better to lose an argument than lose a friend”. That’s a value system. Values can change, principles are enduring.

Here’s a tweet from someone who calls herself a columnist. Not exactly a big celebrity, but a columnist is mostly an “Opinionist”. Yeah, a lot like Ramani. Although the tweet wasn’t to me it refers to MediaCrooks and suggests undisclosed profiles lack courage. My response to that is also given. The reason I have blacked out her name is that this could have come from any of those media celebs who use this line when they run out of rationale. In just a few minutes this pompous, opinionated columnist will discover what some journalists on the ground really think. Come to think of it, the nation owes a great debt to the person who leaked the Radiagate tapes. That’s an anonymous person who hasn’t been identified. Imagine, if instead of Simon Denyer of WaPo someone called Maneetar Dumbari had written the same “tragic figure” article in a newspaper in Bihar, the media or PMO wouldn’t even have heard of it. That’s true, our elites are so steeped in the celebrity cult that any view counts only if it has a “tag” on it. That’s when commie-liberals, no Fib-erals, stand up and take notice. 499 Crores does get the attention of Priya Ramani. Doesn’t surprise me!

Over a decade ago I read a book about P&G, one of the most respected companies in the world. It was titled “Winning with the P&G 99” by an ex-employee, Charles Decker. The book deals with the 99 principles that made and keep P&G a great company. I have never forgotten some of those principles and here’s one of them:

“The prevailing attitude (in P&G) is that WHAT is right is far more important than WHO is right. Facts, truth, logic have far more authority at P&G than any individual” --Brad Butler, former P&G Chairman.

It’s a principle that is imprinted in my mind. Which is why I also hold the principle that what is written is more important than who writes it. This blog rarely relies on mere opinions. The posts attempt the best to use hard, indisputable facts. But since logic and reason don’t work with prejudiced minds this site also generously uses sarcasm, humour and gentle ridicule. But hey, facts, logic, truth aren’t for our supposed MSM journalists most of whom neither have principles nor values. Facts, truth, logic have far more authority at P&G he says. In his G+ Hangout, Narendra Modi made an important point. “Criticism needs research. In absence of that it will be just allegations”. Because our media celebs don’t research and merely peddle opinions, there is a consistent and glaring disconnect that is easy to expose. Naturally, it makes them feel “endangered”.

Here’s another mail. This one is from a mainstream journalist as he refers to himself. He says “don’t tell anyone… I might get fired”. He’s a Journalist, not an opinionated columnist like the tweeter and Ramani earlier.That’s the life journalists who are not celebs live. I don’t know him and he doesn’t know me either. I guess the man must have checked up the whole internet to find out who I am, where I live and what dark organisations I am associated with before he wrote to me. Haha! That’s what media celebs are scared of – simple facts and truths. But the hardworking journalists on the ground know what they go through, how their voices are suppressed or their notes twisted.

Here’s another one. Surprise! Again from a journalist! Now, “detailing” is not possible unless you fact-check. You don’t have to fact-check to peddle opinions. Read the blogs and columns from most media celebs, you can easily tell they are not only very personalised opinions but also agenda-driven. The honest truth is, the journalists in the mails have simply gone by what’s written on this site and not by who writes it. That’s the true test of how good a message or article is. That will be the day when celebs in the MSM start evaluating their own values, principles and prejudices reflected in their writes and tweets.

Now here’s another principle from the P&G 99: If a decision has to be made in the absence of facts, never confuse personal opinions with informed judgment. Specifically, ''The data suggests...'' is safer than beginning with “I think” or “In my opinion”…That’s perfect advice for many of our columnists.

Now here’s a tweet that should shock those who still believe an “ID tag” is what counts if what is written has to be worth it. This is not from a follower or a fan of this blog. This is from a very prominent reporter who is on News TV almost every day. The person knows me as much as the person whose tweet I quoted first. Zero, absolute stranger! The most abused line on TV has to be: “Having said that...” Next time you hear that line you can easily identify the ‘opinionated’ hawker. Why would a reasonable person say something and then go on to say something contradictory? Even worse, if they have to say “having said that...” then why say that thing in the first place? 

So you see, the problem with our media crooks is not the identity really. It is that ordinary people can openly and courageously say the right thing freely but the crooks are bound by the agenda of the organisation they are chained to. Not facts, truth or logic! The other thing to learn is that hardworking journalists on the ground have absolutely nothing in common with the opinion-peddling, opinion-swinging celebs and anchors. There could be more surprises in store.
