Never Rat On Your Friends & Always Keep Your Mouth Shut

In a strange turn of events, Kapil Sibal the Congress Minister, called the media “corrupt”. This was in Bhopal and must have come as a shock to our media friends. So far whenever the Congress was confronted with its massive scams they always pointed fingers at the BJP or the past NDA govt. Now they are so tired and frustrated they are pointing fingers at the media itself. This is like a love-story gone terribly wrong. But we’ll get to it a bit later.

Take a look at the pic on the left. This is not a scene from some mafia movie. These are Congress goons walking the streets of Kolar (Karnataka) on election-day on May 5, 2013 with swords and rods. This would intimidate any voter but our Election Commission recorded that polling was “peaceful” perhaps because the goons didn’t need to use the weapons. While some local channels in Karnataka carried a report on this, not a single national media house reported it. What should interest people is that there is a cop walking alongside these goons. The pressure of keeping off the hail of scams and misdeeds of the Congress is indeed telling on their media friends. The party and the govt hadn’t gotten past the Coalgate CBI affidavit scam and a new one broke out in the form of Pawan Bansal’s nephew. It is how our media deals with these scams that should be a bigger cause of outrage.

The media friends of the Congress, like NDTV, CNN-IBN and Headlines Today, and I’m sure quite a few other channels, describe the conduct of Ashwini Kumar in dictating the CBI affidavit to Supreme Court as “interference” with the investigation. Interference? That’s a mild word to describe the crime. It is actually “obstruction of justice”. And then the party itself describes the changes dictated by Kumar in the affidavit to be “negligible”. What will our media friends do? See this tweet from Pallavi Ghosh of CNN-IBN. Ever seen a bigger blooper? Why would anyone question a reporter criticising the govt, unless it’s her friends from the Congress party? But that is hardly what her channel does as we shall see. And then she complains that she is lampooned for defending the govt. Really? Since when is it the job of a reporter or a channel to defend the govt? This is what convinces me that those who call themselves journalists probably didn’t complete the right course.

And there is our “Numero uno” political analyst Rajdeep Sardesai. This pathetic editor wonders if a minister should resign for impropriety. Impropriety? That is all that it is? Impropriety? Even an ordinary guy on the street would call a thief a thief. But hey, it involves his friends from the Congress party whom he frequently showers awards with. Everything in the story of Pawan Bansal’s nephew’s bribery case indicates it’s a massive racket and a scam. Turns out the 10Crores bribe deal for a top job in Railways is because the position handles contracts worth 2000 Crores. That’s how the bribe-investment of 10 crores was planned to be recovered. Rajdeep (The English Lalloo that he is) doesn’t get it that top appointments in Railways cannot be made unless the concerned minister was involved. That’s not all. The assets of Vijay Singla, Bansal’s nephew, have gone up from zero to 150 crores in the last five years. To Rajdeep, that is mere “impropriety”.

When someone expresses shock that Rajdeep merely terms it “impropriety” he has an even more interesting answer. He says “Impropriety/ Criminality up for debate”. Is that so? So all that the rats will do is “debate” it? By what logic do the acts of AshwaniK or Bansal warrant a debate? This is where our editors have become puppies and doormats. What is truly required of the media is clear and strong condemnation of both AK and Bansal. Instead, they stupidly believe that if they conduct a debate they have done their job. Naturally, people ask embedded reporters like PallaviG how much is being paid because they suspect “paid reporting”. I have explained before that not all issues are matters for a debate. In the cases of AK and Bansal there is undeniable evidence of not only impropriety but criminality. Reducing their nonsense to mere debates on TV shows how desperate our MSM is to protect their friends? “Thoda Congress ke taraf se defend kar dena” as was overheard on NDTV sometime back.

The trouble with the news media being friendly or getting too close with the ruling party is that familiarity is sooner or later bound to breed contempt. Till a few years ago the media only had to contend with voices from the Opposition parties of covering up crimes of the Congress. They could easily cut off such voices. Now they are finding it difficult because the Social Media keeps breathing down their necks. While I have quoted Rajdeep Sardesai, the story is not different for other media celebs and the intention here is not to single him out.

On May 6 when the stench of misdeeds of AKumar and Bansal was still hanging heavily in the air another guy decided to go ahead with an expose on PSU banks. Doesn’t it sound strange? This is Anirudh Bahal of Cobrapost, the former Tehelka guy. The man has no record of ever exposing a single scam or misdeed of the Congress. Surprising, isn’t it? Considering that Congress is a treasure island of scams. While the contents of his expose may be genuine his timing is suspect and I have to wonder about the motive. Why would a cheap sting operator release his explosive story when the media is already burdened with two of the latest scams in Coalgate and Railgate? He would ideally want all the attention to his story and for it to run all day and night in the media. It didn’t look like that and the money-laundering story of PSU banks went cold in a few hours. Friends help each other, you know. Any distraction is gladly welcome.

Now that the corruption and its defence have become so brazen with the Congress they are now pointing fingers at their own friends and calling them corrupt. The MSM had this coming. Imagine, years of sleeping with the Congress, getting phony Padma awards, facilitation in funding and in the end the party calls their media friends corrupt. It doesn’t stop there. Livemint reports that the Parliamentary Committee on IT now wants to bring in a Statutory Regulator as a watchdog for the media. I welcome it only to the extent if the watchdog is a Constitutional body like the EC or CAG. No matter how much I condemn our corrupt media I would simply not recommend the govt ever appointing its own regulators for the media. That would be like two corrupt forces joining hands. We have already seen what the PCI has turned out to be. The PCI chairman is often busy attending ‘Mushairas’ with his Congress buddies.

On the political front the Congress brought in the Food Security Bill to counter the opposition to their scams. They suggested that BJP and others are “anti-poor” because they aren’t allowing the FSB to pass. This is trickery of the worst kind and the media should have called it as such. They won’t. Friends indeed! On May 7 CNN-IBN reported that Sonia Gandhi was against AshwaniK and Bansal continuing but MMS was opposed to it. Heard anything more absurd?

There’s a golden rule in the mafia: “Never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut”. MMS is a man who keeps his mouth shut always. The media is the mafia that followed the golden rule so far and never ratted on its friends in the Congress and always kept its mouth shut. Even in a very obvious case of criminality they want to “debate” the misdeeds of AshwaniK and Pawan Bansal. That is as stupid as any editorialist can ever get. Editors should have been demanding both ministers to step down instead of “debating” obvious crimes. Well, they follow the golden rule religiously. Never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut. Now that their own friends are calling them “corrupt” it has come to pass that the media now stinks for everyone.

  1. So atlast our msm has started to attack the congress misdeeds vehemontly.2days back ,mani aiyar was shouting at rahul kanwal in his barking style. He seemed to be upset over the attacks by the chor media-and for not covering up the chori of ministers.

    1. This is purely temporary. As soon as Congress pays the chor media its cut, they are back to square one defending the Sonia Gandhi Congress and blaming the Congress scams on BJP government 10 years ago.

We (Ravinar, you, me and our SM friends here) still have the job of keeping (and exposing) media and the government (irrespective of the party) honest. I will take at least two 5 year rules of Modi like honest government for India to become a better and honest democracy.

    4. Don't fall for that charade being played out between Rahul Kanwal & mean mouthed Mani. Rahul & Headlines today might be getting something from the sponsors of Mani to get him on the channel and make disparaging remarks about everyone.

  4. Great Ravinarji! 'Congress is a treasure island of scams', one sentence suffice it all. MSM is getting its own medicine back from their own congi friends. That one was nice and I, for one time, appreciate Kapil Sibal for speaking the truth.

I hope and wish majority of the Indian Banana Republic people become aware about the ploys of Cong and MSM and use their right to vote in the most appropriate manner.

    Cheers! :)

  6. I don't think so, it looks like some strategy of party of hand that is holding MSM. As we see SM going big compared to MSM, its now strategy to talk against its own hand party, and then when election is near also rattle the lotus party so that vote gets divided as we see in current situation there is no hope for hand party.

    1. I very much agree with you. Congress and media are playing a drama as "honest" players. They might be planning a surprise attack(s) on Modi and/or BJP. There may be some more fake sting operations too.

  7. And despite such himalayan corruption , Congress is set to come back in power in Karnataka....Apparently the local channels had a big role to play in this

    1. Congress coming back to Power in Karnataka has nothing to do with the local Channels... Or rather one would term it as negligible if indeed there was something...

BJP is losing Karnataka (am I jumping the gun here), because of there own mis-deed and infighting. Lack of a charismatic leader (this holds good for any party in India, not just in Karnataka), Corrupt ministers (Reddy Brothers, Yeddi himself), lack of will to work and keep visiting temples. For a change, BJP got the opportunity and they themselves to be blamed for screwing it up...

    3. BJP is set to tank in 2014..hail congress..hail rahulG and soniaG.. shri Modi will not be declared PM candidate no matter how much we hope. ultimately coalition govt is the present adn future.. dont waste time on social media where elite guys have a say.. ultimately battles are fought adn won on real ground and not the virtual one

    4. The local channels might have played a role too, but that is not the main reason for BJP's rout. There are several reasons:

      1. Yeddiyurappa and BSR split hurt BJP most
      2. Changing CMs 3 times in 5 years
      3. Corruption issues
      4. Media magnifying BJP issues and campaigning for Congress indirectly.
      5. Not able to capitalize on the good deeds the BJP done

Funny about the corruption here that BJP removed corrupt CM Yeddiyurappa, still his caste voted for him. So, acting against corruption also is bad in India :)

  8. The way BJP ruled for 5 years in Karnataka, Congress may appear to be a holy party.
Starting with RSS Yeddyuruppa giving the Reddy brothers licence to loot Karnataka iron ore mines. Sushmaswaraj supporting Yeddy. Even Advani couldn't dismiss Yeddy easily after all those corruption charges and arrest. Cowards came into compromise and appointed his stooge. Then fag end he was kicked out but by then all damages already done.
Add to it BJP MLAs watching porn in State Assembly.
Congress or JDU will come to power easily.

    1. Wrong approach when you take RSS name before Yeddiyurappa. A person with RSS background is not necessarily a saint, a non-RSS person is not a monster either. When the power goes to head and corrupts mind, he/she commits bad deeds.

Actually it costed BJP its power because it acted against corrupt Yeddiyurappa. See his party won almost 10 seats because his caste voted for his party. This is strange thing in India.

  11. What makes people vote for congress ? I guess we need help from some smart ass to find out what makes it tick. Amazing results in karnataka. How can this happen? BJP is missing something, dont know what but this result is just terrible.Scam after Scam, abusing power, nepotism, spineless leadership, minority appeasement. GOD where are you, need you right here, right now.

I will need a double jack on the rocks to sleep today.

    1. You're right buddy, what I have calculated is that Add BJP votes+KJP+JD (S) votes as because they didn't want congress, but congress as a single party with all these Muslim+Christians and splitted votes of hindus project as if they have got the majority. Just do the calculations and you would find the truth as 'divide and rule' was not only the policy of erstwhile 'British' but also of that of congress. We Indians are fools and we deserve this 'Italian' Mafia rule only with some stooges acting as PM, FM, HM, Ex Af M, etc.

    2. This topic is getting the least Coverage , may be we need to research more on this. Modi wins 115/183 after such performance , Uttrakhand , now Karnataka , only 15/26 for BJP in 2009 , Bjp needs to extrospect not introspect in public. I think Media is key spoiler, they manipulate opinions and Still educated indians claim MMS is honest , and SC has not punished him for Contempt of Court. He is incharge of PMO. Bjp does not have media and right thinking people views cannot reach many. Indians are too emotional and think only very very short term

    3. Pls. recollect Late Mahajan's comment after 2004 defeat. Something like "no party can beat congress in attracting rural vote". Even after nearly decade it is continuing. Educated. urban voter offers only lip service but rural has committed voters. (Rural includes uneducated and poor in urban also).
BJP has to go long way to vote catching techniques.

    4. My observation is : Congress is done it that great which everyone as to agree by hook or crook that the reality, All know that congress is crook & corrupt doesn't it reflect the nature of today society in general. Also BJP learn shd be whatever it takes first come to power and than go the clean slat activities but easy said than done but sometimes you have to do it in large vision. Also BJP is very bad at marketing tht they shd learn from Congress, considering all the social media comments to BJP i thought they will do atleast good in kar but no use as educated only shit and make comments don't go and vote that the reality of today but Sad, which plainly showing in Bangalore voting %, One more thing don't you think that Randhiv earlier article on congress adverstisment for various scam & media advt. will take years to atleast change the attitude of rural folks to congress and than some more years to actually change the votes, I hope it happens faster that the only hope, One good news to all is whenever kar has ruling part as Congress it opposite at centre hope we get bjp at centre.

  12. While I agree to your post largely, the part abt cobrapost is quite intriguing. If a person is doing an expose, does he need some prior experience in that? Or is there a right time for the expose like wait till there is no major story in media going on? Doesn't make sense at all.

  13. In this country there are three professions for which you need no qualifications to become an expert in that field. These are 1)Politican, 2)Sports Administrator & 3)Journalists. You need only money power & muscle power to achieve greatness in these professions though their are a few exceptions. Today's journalists are all journalists because the have connections with politicians and the media house they work are actually owned & controlled by the politicians or industrialists (Ex : TV18 by Reliance & NDTV by CONg), if NDTV had been any other company they would have wound up long ago with so much losses. So we can't expect them to be objective or neutral in their profession. This is where people like Ravinar come in and balance out them. We need more Ravinars among our mist to counter balance the Rajdeep's & Barkha's and also to keep our sanity intact.

  14. i think hindus are the biggest enemy of themselves. We can not think of our safety security and betterment. We need someone else to tell us what to think. muslims or congress know us better. They know all about us. so they have better strategy to defeat us. Bjp can not win because hindus are gadhas. what else to say .. this is the reason.

I just found some of the observations quite harsh. For instance, his scathing attack on P.K.Bansal. I mean there has been no chargesheet filed against him yet. I'm not saying that he is not guilty because I honestly do not know and nor does he. I reckon we should hold our horses and wait for the investigations to complete before commenting on the integrity of any public figure.

  16. Dear Ravi,

As usual - excellent - par for the course in your case.

Someone should tell Pallavi Ghosh that none questioned Arun Shourie when he took on establishment saying "Paise mil gaye kya," the reason was very simple, people saw his honest effort.

In her case and that of her ilk, people see through their "independent and neutral views"

Someone should tell Rajdeep Sardesai and all those like him who love & parrot the line of leaving "Kursi" on being proven guilty, that you cannot be a Minister or PM from Jail. But this is Congress and they will not ask questions to their paymasters.

For last 3-4 days, seeing Headlines Today taking on Government head on after a few weeks of following the Khangressis. Is it me only imagining or others too noticed it.

Would love to see the day when Rajdeep/Pallavi/Barkha/Sagarika tweet that why did not they raise Sheila Dikshit’s resignation demand in wake of Shunglu Committee report indictment as vociferously as they did for Yeddurappa.

I am getting greedy and wishing for too much I guess !!!

    1. In so far as Sheila Dikshit's resignation is concerned why depend on KhanChris's conscience keepers. Why did BJP rush to boot out BSY? They could have made his sacking conditional to action on shunglu committee report. One must remember that the act of sacking of a CM remains in the minds of voters more than, inaction on the corruption of another CM. That is where the KhanChris experience in looting helps them.Had BSY continued to be in the saddle in Karnataka they would not have faced such a rout.I think except for Smriti Irani and Meenakshi Lekhi, the BJP spokespersons are very ordinary.

Your recent articles are moving away from facts and logical conclusion.
The BJP paid its price in Karnataka.
Now Congress will have to pay in Center if people of India understands the the word "Corruption" and vote out Congress.
Congress has smartly tried to keep the people illiterate to manipulate them during elections.
The majority which don't even know the meaning of Internet is much more larger than those who uses it daily.
Illiterate and Rural people will keep on getting exploited by this Politicians.

  19. I had some respect initially for Rajdeep, but he has been utterly disappointing off late. Only Arnab to an extent and headlines today at times seem to take on the looters (congress) sometimes on their channels. Less said about Burkha Dutt the better, she should have resigned from her job after the Radia case instead of trying to talk about politicians' ethics. The whole media (90% of them) in our country is rotten and fed on congress' money and hence u will get the correct news.
